In the hills behind Kardamyli there is a network of old stone paths called kalderimi which used to be the only way of travelling between the villages. After visiting the old town we went for a delightful although at times quite testing walk along the kalderimi, visiting three villages and admiring the views back down to the coast and Kardamyli.

Following lunch and a swim to cool us down after our exertions we continued driving southwards into the mountains and through many remote villages. In the evening we left the main road and dived down a narrow steep lane to the remote beach at Hotasia where we camped with one other van of Italian origin.
