We started the day with a walk down to the not too spectacular pebble beach by the campsite. Then we drove 80k to the beautifully located Camping Alphios set in an elevated position above the town of Olympia. We were surprised to see that the Camping and Caravan Club group had also arrived there.

Adjacent to the town are the ruins of the complex where the ancient Greek and Roman Olympic Games were held for over 1000 years from 776BC. The Games were partly a religious festival. The athletics included running events and a pentathlon comprising wrestling, running, long jumping, discus and javelin. We plan to explore the site tomorrow.
