Working on a cruise ship is not always easy and especially these days, with a lot of restrictions still in place. At the moment we can only leave the ship once in a while, so the crew has to choose their ports carefully.

A few cruises ago we decided to take our shore leave in Santorini, because I have never been to Greece before and it seemed like a nice place to get off. Also I thought it be really nice to get some good pictures to make my folks at home jealous lol

Since the town itself is build on a cliff the ships are not able to dock here, so we had to anchor and take a tender to the bottom of town. From there you have three options to get into Santorini, either to walk up the hill, which is 30 minute climb and you have to dodge all the donkey poop, to get a donley ride up, which is definitely not recommended (poor animals) or to take the cable car up the mountain, which is probably the best option. We decided on the cable car, which only took about 10 minutes.

Once we got to the top we took a little walk through the narrow streets, which were filled with little shops and restaurants. All the buildings are white with mostly blue touches, and it really looked like in the pictures you would find on the internet 😊 also the town itself felt very small.

One thing we noticed was that Santorini is very expensive especially if you are trying to find somewhere to eat with a view. We found a nice restaurant with a beautiful view across the sea, but after we order two beers, which cost us 20$ we decided to skip lunch and look for a gyros stall a little further from the town center.

Once you leave the city center and turn into one of the side streets you will find a couple of fast food stalls. They might not be as pictures, but you wallet will thank you later.

We only had about three hours to walk around the city, but it was worth a visit and I got my pictures

Love the beautiful towns on the Greek islands
I visited two Greek islands some years ago and I totally loved the towns there. They are so beautiful. I'd love to spend a vacation just island hopping in Greece. I know there are similar towns in Italy as well where there is a very popular hiking trail. I think it's called Cinque Terre. That hike I really want to do. /Åke
