Part 1

1). In the article, " The Funeral Oration of Pericles," Pericles define democracy as laws with equality and justice. Every person has free play in life. 2). Pericles say it takes attendence from citizens to both public and private duties, decide and debate to all matters of policy to be a good citizen.

Part 2

If I was to time travel back to the time of Ancient Greece, I would prefer to live as an Athenian because I agree Pericles's point of that poverty is people who make no effort to overcome their problems, and people who succeed is because they create opportunities for themselves and accomplished. Also, I believe everyone have freedom, not ruled by certain discipline, like girls are expected to provide sons for the army. While Athenian democracy believes all citizens should share power and wealth. Sparta only focuses about military, it's a warrior society;it is unfair to women when they can only serve the men. Therefore, I would prefer live as an Athenian.
