July 9th Alex to Kavala

Checked out to see the girl on reception looking even more worried as the Greek PM & FM (Here's looking at Euclid) were leaving stuff until the last minute. Not a long drive, about 100 miles to Kavala & again very quiet roads. We stayed here before too having pre booked all the Greek sites in case they were busy. I was surprised that the site wasn't but the beach was, it being a popular day trip spot for the area & for Bulgarians – the border being only an hour's drive away. Settled in, had lunch & found 2 sun-loungers on the beach. They had 1 waiter & 2 waitresses wandering up & down the beach taking orders for the bar; they were kept very busy. Then we spotted a site to behold next to the water's edge...not natural! The town & beach looks out to Thasos – having past Lesbos, Limnos & Samothraki – very pretty too.





The bar played music all day, not that loud but loud enough & some of it was quite good in a trance like way...which kept going until about 8.30pm when they shut shop. We had a couple of drinks in the bar watching some buffoon getting slowly sozzled on vodka & coke, whilst chatting up a Greek barmaid & throwing some shapes at the same time – like some sort of mating ritual...He failed surprisingly enough. Good cabaret though.
