Versailles
this whole picture is the gardens looking out from the palace...the place i got lost was half way down and to the left Geo: 37.9792, 23.7166
it's hot as fuck around here dudes (y'all remember how hot that is, right?)
Rewind a couple of days:
Versailles was an awesome thing to see...the palace itself was more of the same (i.e. big, gaudy) but the gardens were absolutely wonderful...gardens, just so you know, are allowed to be big...they had one of those hedge mazes which i totally got lost in for 45 mins...it was pretty awesome thinking "i'm lost...in france...in a garden"

Giverny, Monet's house and gardens, were unforgettable...i canNOT believe i was actually there...dream come true - CHECK
we were on a tour with only 4 people so the driver took us for joyrides around Normandy for the whole day (not beach-Normandy, countryside-Normandy)...it was really pretty and the Seine makes everything green and lush...i totally loved the whole day and will probably return to France to see the southern region (sorry Vivien, but it IS happening)
i also managed to make it to the Musee D'Orsay...i went super early and while waiting for it to open i googled a map of the layout and exhibits...as soon as we were allowed in i went straight for Van Gogh and Renoir and was in there completely ALONE...shit was real! i literally Me and Monet's gardens
the term "impressionists" was coined by a critic who saw Monet's early works, hated them, and referred to Monet as "a man impersonating an artist" came to a sudden stop in front of Van Gogh's self-portrait and stood there in awe, complete with mouth hanging open
Present day:
hot as fuck, i said that, right?
i love Athens, i love her sounds, i love her small inconvenient streets, i love that there are both locals and tourists in the same place, eating the same food, walking the same streets...i love that there are people everywhere even in the middle of the August heat, i love that if you need a beer refill you just smack your empty on the table, and that if you need to get passed a crowd you push...i even love her stink...yessum, i fucking love athens
Highlights so far:
-i didn't want to eat meat 2 days in a row so i ordered a souvlaki with everything, sans meat...the old-man waiter looks at me sideways and says in english "1 greenpeace souvlaki"
-at a periptero (kiosk) in Plaka with my (60 year old uberawesome) aunt, chatting to an acquaintance...young dude comes by looking for a specific chewing gum, gets told it's around the front, but he's still looking on the side...she tells him once, she tells him twice, then she yells at him (she's greek, it's what we do) "are you deaf, it's around the front"...dude turns around and gives her a dirty, mumbling shit under his breath...so i say loud enough for him to hear "does he know i'm with you and that i'll smack him if he doesn't stop?"...she replies "why, do you think i wouldn't do it myself"...i love this woman's guts!
Saturday: off to Euboia for 6 days of sun, and the August full moon...it's been 12 years since i've seen a Greek August moon
