THURSDAY 2ND APRIL 2015 - Update from Tom: "Trip so far - Well, we had problems. Sure, it was going to happen. Chris had problems with Landrover Monday. Tuesday got it fixed in the end but then he got involved in a small crash pm Tuesday. Then Ed and Chris had their cars broken into last nite. Tom & Geoff at hotel near ferry crossing to morocco tomorrow. We are hoping the other two teams join us soon if they get windows fixed today, cos if they don't get to our hotel soon I will have drunk all the beer! We are missing our other two teams" STOP PRESS : "They made it to the hotel but had to start fixing windows. Mr Fixer and Ed with a little help from Tom and Geoff"
Update from Tania: I spoke to Geoff last night as the other two teams arrived at the hotel. Great to have the trio of cars back together again and to see the 4 weary travellers safe and well. They were just setting up the BBQ in the hotel car park (Hotel Piedra Paloma just south of Estepona) and all enjoying a well earned beer while "The
Fixer" and Ed worked on to install the new windows. Ed managed to find a replacement window for his car, but Chris had to have one fashioned from perspex! Geoff said that they seemed in good spirits despite the probs they have faced and excited about the next part of the trip. They are putting all the mishaps behind them as just part of the challenge. Well done guys! That's the spirit. You are all absolutely amazing and we salute you!! xxxxxx
Following are reports from Chris, Emily-Rose, Ed and Sally about what they have faced in the last couple of days:
Sally: "Disastrous day yesterday!!! (Day 4 Tuesday 31st March) Tuesdays are really from hell! Everyone's fine that's the main thing. Landys turbo finally got fixed and started going fine, Barely avoided a major collision with the landy, it went on to two wheels after nearly side swiping another car that snuck up on it but didn't get a scratch. And then after covering some miles we stopped early hours to get a quick bite for the landy and merc to have the windows smashed In and two bags stolen what a day!!!!!
We're fine, it's a new day and at the end of the day it was only stuff even though some it was much cherished gifts. We can replace them. Thanks for every ones concern big hugs and love to you all xxx"
Sally (morning of Day 5 Wed 1st April): "The police are just here to translate, lucky we had door windows shade (thanks halfords) and the really helpful windows people thanks to my very clever boyfriend finding them as the insurance people are so slow"
Sally: "Chris and Ed knowing no Spanish, ordered from a drive though fast food chain which was amazingly done considering the language barrier well done boys xx whoop whoop xxx"
Ed (morning of Day 6 Thur 2nd April): "Windows all fixed for now, stayed in a hotel for a good night's sleep as we'd had about 4 hours in past couple days and all feeling it . So today we hope to secure our loads on top of cars and get the ferry ASAP! Jeff and tom have made the ferry so will meet up with them soon as we can , I hope they don't text us to say that
the seas rough as tablets got stolen!!"
This morning Geoff and Tom met a chap while fuelling up called Joseph Lathey, a Brit living in Spain - who posted a photo to the D2D FB page wishing them lots of luck. Lifts the spirits to get this kind of support on the road - thanks Joe!
Geoff and Tom boarded the ferry at Algeciras this morning around 10am and sailed over to Tangier Med arriving around lunchtime. They look forward to catching up with their other 4 team mates in Morocco very soon!
