This tower is located on the waterfront in the town. We climbed the tower to take some photos. Geo: 47.6519, 9.47837
We enjoyed the best breakfast of our holiday thus far at Hotel Lisl in Hohenschwangau. We then headed off to Friedrichshafen.
Friedrichshafen is a holiday town located on the northern side of Lake Konstanz (the
Bodensee) in Southern German. Lake Konstanz has three countries bordering its shores, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Friedrichshafen was established in 1811 as part of the new Kingdom of Wurttemberg, an ally of France during the Napoleonic Wars.
Friedrichshafen is best known for being the site of the Zeppelin factory. It also housed the Dornier factory, with the well known Dornier planes playing a significant role for Germany in WWII. Between 1942 and 1945, these factories employed hundreds of concentration camp prisoners from Dachau and Dora-Mittelbau, as well as building the V2 rockets which shelled London during WWII.
On the way to Friedrichshafen, we drove through the old town of Ravensburg. This town is famous for its medieval old town, as well as being the home of Ravensburger Puzzles, which produce most of the world's Jigsaw Puzzles.
After arriving at our Gasthof, we settled in and then went for a walk along the lake shore, enjoying a gelati along the way. We took some photos View of Friedrichshafen
Taken from the Viewing Tower, of Switzerland and Austria across the lake, and then came across the former Summer Palace of the Wurttemberg Royal Family.
We then headed back to our Gasthof for a rest and to watch Cadel Evans win the Tour de France. What a great triumph for Cadel after so many attempts to win the great race. It was interesting to see the streets of Paris on TV that we recently walked.
We are off to Strasbourg tomorrow.
