After seven tranfers and another full day of riding trains we arrived in Innsbruck, Austria. We learned of this medieval-style town from an Australian in Munich who claimed it was a must see on our trip. Home to its famous apple strudle and weiner schnitzel this little town remined us a lot of Whistler and recently visited Rossland, BC, being a quiet town surrounded by tall snow bearing mountains. Our only wish was that it was winter rather than summer and we were equipped with an arsenal of snow toys after seeing what the town looked like in pictures during the snow season. Despite only staying here one night we managed to walk throughout the town and of coarse shotgun a beer in the famous Innsbruck picture frame, after persuading an asian man to be patient with the picture taking. With only a few days left in our shenanigans we decided to pay an old friend of Tenille´s named Bruno who lived in a neighboring village of Frankfurt called Hanheim. Upon arriving at Bruno´s house we were greated with our first sight of peanut butter this whole trip and a platter of German sausage. The next day we made our way into the nearby city of Meinz, which we later discovered had only one remaining structure left after the city was bombed during the world war. That night we were invited out to a local festival which we were sure was going to be small and quiet, having heard of it from Bruno´s mother. Once we got there we found out it was a wine drinking, beer bashing, and club music filled event that seemed to leave the whole town full of local drink and good times. It was here we learned of the translation of Hanheim: Han = chicken , Heim= home. Sadly the next day we had to leave chicken home and said goodbye to our newly aqcuired German friends. With one night left and back in frankfurt we visited the spots we had first been at the beginning of our trip enjoyed our last delicious German beer. See ya Europe its been a slice!
