Castle from the bridge Today we went to Meissen, the birthplace of porcelain in Europe. It was a much later start than we were used to, which was really nice, so we got to sleep in a bit. And Jamie and I headed over early so that we could figure out what to do with her ticket, since she actually had to buy one. The trip over wasn't long by train and it was a GORGEOUS day. The first thing we did was to walk up towards the castle which took some time and we passed it from a distance from the bridge on our way from the station.
On our way into the main old town square, Dr. G stopped and bought us all ice cream at a vendor on the street- I had marzipan! It was amazing. Then we got to see the old town center, and started on our ascent to the castle, which was up these winding cobblestone roads that the town was just built up and down. It was REALLY cool- kind of exactly what I had always imaged Europe would be like, lol. He stopped us again by a wine shop and asked if we wanted to do

How long it took to get to other German villages/towns some wine tasting, which of course we said yes, and he got us all a glass of wine, too! He's the best tour guide ever. T_______T
So after we relaxed and drank our wonderful wine, we started back up and he stopped AGAIN to buy us traditional Meissen bread which was made very delicately with air in the middle in order to see if the message transporters were drinking too much wine and forgetting the message. If the bread got back to Dresden in one piece, then they weren't drunk. LOL best story ever. Smart people. So we all had some of the traditional bread and then we continued up again. He stopped us at one of the scenic overlooks, and then we finally got up to the castle, which had a cathedral built inside and around it a few centuries later. (it's really obvious from the pictures they were built at different times)
First we went into the cathedral, which was very plain and narrow compared to the churches we've seen so far here. And then we got to go into the castle! We had to pay an extra 2 Euro to take pictures, so I did
and I definitely got the most out of that. The walls were decorated in frescoes and paintings and they were AMAZING and they had old furniture and tapestries and armor. And they had a room where we all had to put on these slippers over our shoes to walk around to avoid scuffing the original flooring, so we were skating around across the floor inside this old castle! Coolest thing ever, omg. Anna got a great picture of all of us posing with our slippers, haha.
There was a ton of stuff in the castle and I took pictures of most of it, because it was just so amazing to be there inside a REAL castle with real stuff they used from it! So cool. Then we met back up in the courtyard- there were musicians playing traditional 1920's German music there, and all the Germans around could sing along with it. It was very cool. Dr. G gave us the option to do whatever we wanted, so my group of girls opted to stay and eat at an amazing German restaurant in the old town square before heading back to Dresden. I had lesson planning to do and

Inside the wine shop Jamie and I had big plans to watch The Room (yeessssss) but it was an amazing day and definitely a nice, relaxing outing compared to how much we were booking it around Prague yesterday.
Jamie leaves tomorrow. 😞 Sad day. I never get to see her enough, boo. 😞 But this is a short week for me. I'm teaching a group of 7th graders tomorrow and it's my only mittelschule visit this week due to Ascension Day, the holiday on Thursday that gives us a four day weekend. And I'm just assisting (supposedly) tomorrow night, so I only teach again on Wednesday, with two observations on Tuesday. I really need the rest!! It's a busy weekend this weekend... and I only have two weeks left. It kind of feels like I've been here for ages, lol, because we're so busy all the time. So much work!!
