Cookies I got at the supermarket- they have passion fruit in them. Yesterday, after our adventures at the grocery store, Anna, Hillary and I set out towards downtown Dresden to hit up some museums. We managed to get through an entire wing of one before they asked for our tickets and we went, "huh?" because there had been absolutely no one there and no desk (and we couldn't read the German for "tickets") so we hadn't gotten any. This proved hilarious, because then we just left, because we didn't really care to pay to go through the museum, lol.
However, then we found this famous Protestant church and took some pictures outside it, and then made our way back to the Opera House again, which was closed (we aren't sure if you can ever get in, the doors were locked, but there were people coming out of it). We ended up going through the museum of Old Masters, which cost 8 Euro, but was totally worth it, because they had so many famous painters in there, including Raphael's famous "The Holy Trinity". Seeing this stuff was really amazing for me with all that art history, so that was really cool. After that, we went back into the ped mall and got our

Protestant church and me. first authentic food there, which was doner (pronounced "dooner"), basically a Turkish fast food. It was amazing, and the stand was run by some Egyptian guys, so they were trying to teach me some German words when they handed me things like napkins.
By the time we got back, some other people were awake, so we hung out with some of the girls and then Anna, Brittany and I went to go chillax on the 14th floor balcony overlooking a ton of stuff. It was really nice, and really pretty.
Today I slept in (still adjusting to the sleep schedules) and Dr. G took us to Schloss Pillnitz (Castle Pillnitz) which was a train + bus ride to the edge of the city, basically. It was AMAZING. There were actually two castles- Lake Castle and Hill Castle- and then a building connecting them. We walked all around the grounds to the French Gardens and the English Gardens, and he showed us the lines marking the various floods from the river, and we ate at the castle building between them that had a little cafe. I had some apricot cheesecake, which was really amazing. Unfortunately, it started raining on

Walking towards the Catholic church. us while we were there, so I'm glad I had my umbrella, but it didn't last long, and then we were off again.
We took the scenic route back, so we took a bus maybe 1/3 of the way and then walked through more of the city a bit. It's really amazing how European everything looks; it's so different! We crossed a bridge and did some more city-walking, and then took the train back to the station by our dorms.
We were on our own for dinner, so our group of girls (9 of us) decided to go out and find a restaurant to eat in. We ended up walking all the way past the ped mall, but since most things are closed on Sundays, the only thing we found was another Turkish place, so I had durum (pronounced "doorum"), which is basically donar but rolled up like a burrito. Brittany speaks German, so she was our translator/guide, and after we came back, we decided to hang out in Anna's room (which has been dubbed "the party room") because we are all ridiculously awesome and shared all the rest of the beer that we had, since the supermarkets

The frescoes on the wall. were closed today. We even made a shirt that we are writing inside jokes on. I really, really love the girls on this program with me. We had such a good time together, and I think it's going to be so much fun to do excursions with them! <3333 Happy~ the boys are kind of mostly just pretentious douchebag hipsters, but whatever. 😉
I'm trying not to overload this thing with pictures but there are just SO MANY, it's hard! Hopefully people aren't getting bored by them, heehee. 😊 I miss you all very much!! Tomorrow we start with orientation and lesson planning, so my free-for-all days of sight-seeing will be at an end, at least during the week, but that's okay. It'll be nice to getting back to having some structure, at least.
