Burg Nanstein
the castle in Landstuhl It had only been about a half a year since I (amy) was away from Germany and I was itching to go back! It was soooo beautiful there, the people were kind and I had so many fond memories of the place that I wanted Jeff to witness the grandeur of the country as well. So, in early April I needed to do some more training for my work in Spain and they told me to pick a base in Europe to go to. Duh! Of course I went with Germany. I knew the place. I had friends that were still there. What better place to go back to for a week. My flight was free and we just had to get Jeff a ticket which is always super cheap with the likes of airlines such as RyanAir, EasyJet, etc. These airlines limit the amount of luggage, charging extra for extra luggage and charging for food & drinks. I guess this is how they are so cheap. Also, since Europe is smaller in terms of landmass, the distances aren't as great between destinations. I suppose that's why it seems so damn expensive in the states to fly anywhere; you have to
on the Autobahn
pushing the car to 200km which is about 124mph. cross a greater distance. Anyways, some of these airlines offer 0.99cent flights plus tax. Not too shabby! So, we flew into Frankfurt Hahn airport which isn't in Frankfurt at all! It's not even really close. It's a really small airport which I believe used to be an old U.S. base. It's nestled among rolling green hills that are led into by a windy two-lane road. Jeff still didn't have his international drivers license at this time so I did all the driving. We met up with my good friend Tara. She lived in a village near Ramstein Air Base. While we were there we had a delicious dinner at a Nepalese restaurant called Himalaya. So, so good. It's located in downtown Kaiserslautern, nick-named K-town by all the lazy Americans that don't want to say the whole 14 letter word. Haha! I guess it's been dubbed that for some time now. There are a handfull of Air Force and Army bases in the local vicinity so there's a big mixture of people. We also spent some time wandering through the woods in Landstuhl, visited the castle there (Burg Nanstein), showed Jeff my old house & village I lived in and took
Ausfahrt
basically means exit but sure sounds neater the train to Heidelberg to wander and see the castle. My friend Beatrice is from Germany and she showed us around this area and was our navigator on the trains😊 One of the last places we visited was Miramar in Weinheim. It's a nude spa. A must-do when you are in Europe. I had already been there before so knew it was a great place. It only takes about 30seconds to get over the awkwardness. Nudity is not a big taboo and snubbed like it is in the states. This place is not just a pool with a bunch of naked bodies floating around. No! There are numerous hot tubs, pools, steam rooms, lake, dry saunas of different temperatures that are accessed by a stone path outside. There is even a wave pool. It really is quite the exhilarating experience! Before we left Deutschland we went to the local go-kart track and raced towards victory. Neither one of us won but sure had fun doing it. I know Jeff's first time in Germany was a memorable one!
