So we are getting married. a proposal, bubbly wine and a tear were involved in the decision. then practicality kicked in: all we have to do is submit some papers, find a barrier free place (for the special people using wheelchairs invited) and be prepared for all weather conditions and all dietary requirements. EASY. Documents from Israel had to be translated by an approved translator from the list on the German embassy's website. Then the ministry of foreign affairs had to approve it.

EASY

So the minute my document were translated the approving ministry went on a month long strike.

EASY

One month later, my father went to the ministry for foreign affairs when the strike was over.

Birth certificate from Italy is too old. I needed the modern multi-lingual modern one.

EASY

letters and signatures were exchanged, a good friend who (how lucky can I get?) lives in Bologna received it and posted it to Thomas.

EASY

Couriers were required, Easter and Pesah slowed them down. finally all documents arrived. and submitted. now we have to find a place to have the wedding lunch/dinner, in case the German authorities decide to approve it.

A place was found!! it's lovely, it's not far from Frankfurt city center and even is in a forest (or what Israelis call a forest). we went to Goethe Tower restaurant and spoke to them, understanding that there's nothing we can do until we have a date...4 weeks later---- the phonecall arrives. we are approved!! and there's a date: 06.08.14. emails were sent, transportation was booked and a small group of 25 guests was created. all related to our relationship, all are the closest family and friends. we are ready!!

EASY

NO. we are not. the place is booked for that day... a hectic quest, looking for alternatives started. we had 2 weeks before I fly back to Israel and return to Frankfurt only a week before the wedding. calls, emails, visits--- found! the lovely Burg Frenkenstein agreed to host us (for a "minor" fee) . lovely view, disabled friendly and -- a castle. Just perfect. Purple wedding gown - checkHomemade veil - checkFlowers made from chocolate - checkMatching orange shoes and nail polish - check
EASY. NO. The recent Gaza-Israel war broke. rockets are flying, death and sorrow, political and personal conflicts, stress and hopelessness. on the practical level -- flights to/from Israel were stopped for 2 days. an earlier flight was booked so I will be sure I'll attend my own wedding.

Pre- wedding dinner was booked for 20 guests at our local "Ginnheimer Wirtshaus" biergarten (our second home) .

EASY

NO. Only 12 of the guests were several hours late....
and so it really started - the wedding day was the first of a wedding trip with family and friends, specially planned by us to visit barrier free places and introduce my German life to my family. it was almost a week of exciting and emotional moments with several minor disasters, just to add to the stress (in the following blog posts the minor disasters will be detailed in ITALIC)

to be continued.....

Frankfurt
I have generally required to visit Frankfurt, then again just haven’t had the chance yet…all your posts on it are beautiful, this specific labyrinth looks so intriguing, that cave chapel too! I truly hope I do discover visit someday, maybe when we’re planned to attend classes Europe once yet again. Bless you for sharing.
