despite 20 years of base, toner and touch-up...Berlin still has pock marks on its face. bullet holes remind you of what happened here. evidence of a ground war, that we Amerikaners don't really have...

in my safe suburban hood, they're still at: security. these hi-tech locks in the gym locker room astonished me...what would the haus fraus want with my sneakers anyways? (of course one is required to change out of one's street shoes, lest me track a speck of dirt)

communist art still stands in east berlin parks. haunts of dreams of equality. of working for a classless, free society. you can call me a bit of a commie i suppose. though, this sculpture does make me think of all the commie athlete dreams of defection...

...and sport still holds a prominent place in modern Berlin. let's say i didn't quite master this particular apparatus - and there are plenty of them scattered in east berlin parks...most Germans make sport and health a routine.

don't even get me started on the network, and comfy widths, of the bike lanes. not to mention the off-road forest trails within city limits...aaaaah, mein fahrrad...
