Big Beautiful Fountain
The room we had in Nuremberg was smokey and gave me allergies (I think). I woke up not feeling so hot. We packed and checked out and made our way back to the main part of town. We walked around, and there were a lot of booths set up selling food or things to buy (junk). I was wondering if it was a craft market. They were mostly set up in the HauptMarkt, which had another big church in it - The Church of Our Lady as well as the Big Beautiful Fountain (as said on my map). We decided to walk up to Kaiserburg Imperial Castle, which was up steep hills. On our way up we passed a man playing the saw. Awesome. We had our packs on, so getting up the hills was tough and we didn't stay up there too long. There was a good view though! We walked back down and went to the train station. Picked up some sandwiches for the train and left around 1pm.
The ride was only 100 minutes or so, but the train was packed. When we got into Munich's main station it was SUPER busy with people. I think a lot of it was people going to and leaving from Oktoberfest. We took the S-bahn out to our hotel, which is only a block or so away from the station. After dumping of our stuff we decided to go check out the Oktoberfest grounds. The U-bahn station opens up right there. It was flooded with people - most in traditional outfits. The grounds are big. There are a ton of rides, booths, people. There was a lot more carnival/family feeling/attractions to it then I had expected. It's fairly overwhelming and a lot to take in. We walked around for awhile and passed by some of the big beer tents. It's impressive for a temporary festival. We watched the rides go and people pass by, and eventually decided to get some dinner while we were there. We got a 1/2 meter brautwurst. It was a long, thin, spicy sausage that easily hung 6 inches over the bun on each side. We ate it from both ends until it fit well in the bun. It was tasty and funny to eat. We came back to the hotel area and looked for a small shop to buy drinks, but found nothing. We ended up

getting some sodas from an internet cafe.

We spent a little time trying to figure out the rest of our trip, which is good. Tomorrow we are going to try to get to Oktoberfest earlier rather than later and hopefully get ourselves into a tent or two! I'm going to lay down and hope some sleep will make me feel better in the morning.
