We spent the day walking around Honfleur, France. Small port town reminiscent of the Italian coastal towns. Many unique shops and galleries.
After breakfast at our B&B – wonderful croissants and pastries, we tried for some culture. We hiked up to the top of the hills to see Our Lady of Grace Chapel. Very old small chapel with a maritime feel. They have elaborate bells that ring on the hour. Lots of pictures below, plus a short video if it ever uploads. My videos won't upload to the travel blog. Here is a link to a very short video of the church.
Marilyn and Peg - this is for you.
Beautiful weather today. Sun has been shining all day. Apparently, Normandy is very rainy, but we have been very lucky so far.
There was a small market day going on, but it was pretty crowded with locals. Mainly food: fruits and veggies, breads, cheeses etc. We tried to buy some fruit, but didn't realize for a while that we had butted in line. Who knew?
Again today, no one spoke English. There was a couple sitting in the courtyard at our B&B that were so excited that someone spoke English to

Up a very steep hill, a cute little chapel that was surprisingly interesting inside. them. They are from Portland.
Is it even possible that shop owners don't immediately realize that we are American.? They speak to us in French, then I say "Je ne comprende pas" they look surprised. Or maybe they are just puzzled because they still don't' know what I am saying? The ladies in the chocolate store were the nicest, maybe because we made 3 trips in there.
Lots of tourists in this town, but many are French. And large groups of teenagers.
After our culture, we spent most of the day shopping and walking. There is a nice walk along the water down to a beach on the Seine. Then you walk back through this crazy sculpture park. Large park, nicely landscaped, with sheltered hedgerows, and busts of famous Honfleurians in each hedgerow. It looks like their heads are sitting on the of the shrubs. Freaky.
We did go to a couple of small, hard to find museums, but the descriptions are all in French. Still interesting. One was in a former prison.
We had a light lunch sitting at a café near the water, relaxing. The people watching was wonderful.
At dinner we sat next to another American couple. We all seem to

there are boats hanging all over from the ceiling - this is a port town. Fresh roses on the alter. go to the Rick Steve's recommended restaurants. So we compared notes. On the other side of us, this french family came in with their little dog. (inside seating - we're in France) He stayed under the table and was fine, it just seems so strange to the dog come walking right into the restaurant. Of course, I got to pet him.
And, to top it all off, I got my favorite french dessert - Profiterolles! see photo. They were yummy.
Also on Youtube, I put a short video showing you are B&B. Thought my sisters might enjoy it.
