The Canal du Midi runs 240k from Toulouse to the Mediterranean at Agde and passes through Canal du Midi. It was built 1667 and 1681 and includes 99 locks and 130 bridges. Today we cycled along part of the tree lined canal to the west of Carcassonne and past several of the locks. We were amazed that such a large engineering project was undertaken so long ago.

In the evening we walked into a floodlit La Cité and enjoyed Grand Manier crêpes at one of the many restaurants.
