Day 13
Wow, we finally made it to the city of lights, Paris. We got up early today to drive the 2.5 hours to Paris from the Normandy area. It was another unusually cool and rainy morning, so being in the bus was not such a bad thing. We had to leave early so we could make it to our appointment to go up the Notre Dame cathedral. There was a long line when we arrived, but that is one of the perks traveling in a group, we walked right up to the front and went in at our appointment time. Climbing the bell towers was great and was a great introduction to the city. After our climb we had a lunch break and a bit of time to look around the Latin quarter and explore the area around the Cathedral. I was shocked how much stuff our group could buy in a short lunch break. We then went and checked into our hotel and had a short break, then it was back to the city. We went first to the area around the Pompidou center then headed out to the Montmartre area and to the Sacred heart church. There we
had dinner, looked and the great views and enjoyed people watching up at the church. We then headed back to the hotel for the night. Quite a first day in the big city.
Day 14
Our first full day in Paris started with a driving tour of Paris. The normal 3.5 hr tour only took two hours because it was Sunday and there was basically no traffic. It was great to drive by all the major sights and get an overview of the city and of course stop for a group shot by the Eiffel Tower. After our tour we split into two groups. One group went with Thomas our tour guide to the Catacombs and it sounded like they had a great time. The other group with me went to see the Orengerie museum to see Monet's water lilies. We then crossed the river and had lunch and went to the Museum D'orsay. It was one place I had not been and it was great. We then all met back at the Arc de triomphe. Most of us then climbed the arch and wandered on the most famous street in the world. We had dinner on the Champs
Elysees. After dinner we took the metro back to the Eiffel tower where they have a large screen set up to watch the World Cup soccer matches. We watched the first half of Brazil play the Ivory Coast. What a place to watch a game with the Eiffel tower as the backdrop.
One last day in Paris tomorrow and our incredible journey will be over. Today was the first day I heard a few kids talk about what they miss so we must be getting close to the end. They have been awesome travelers. One more Entry tomorrow and we will see you all in a few days.
