We had a crazy train ride from Milan to Nice. What’s new really…all of our travel days have so far been a little crazy. We weren’t given seat numbers for the train which we didn’t realise until about 2 hours into our trip when people slowly started to fill up our cabin and replace other people who were basically squatting in the seats until they were forced to move. So shortly after we realised our seats were taken and we were out in the train hallway for the rest of the trip. Luckily we could keep our suitcases in the cabin. We spent the next couple hours up and down as people were walking up and down the hallway past us. We arrived at our stop and transferred trains for another 30 minute train ride until Nice. When we arrived in Nice we were able to walk to our hotel room, which was both close to the train station and beach and old town of Nice, so it was the perfect location. We had a big room with a nice bathroom and huge balcony that extended from the bathroom to bedroom. We explored the beach area, walked down to the port
had some cheap beers along the way then explored the crazy curvy streets of Vieux Nice and I remembered why I loved Nice (aside from the most amazingly clear blue water). We had dinner at this little restaurant, tried some amazing moules (muscles) and strolled back to our room.
The next day we headed first thing to the beach. There is so many spots to choose from but the beach was packed… it was definitely a very busy busy week in Nice. We found a nice spot on the beach and hung out for the day, swam, slept, read etc. In the evening we went out to Vieux Nice, had some ….Mojitos at a couple different locations during happy hour and then found a nice spot to eat dinner. I had an amazing three cheese pizza. After a few drinks and a great meal we were both feeling pretty good….and that is about when Rob spotted the CANDY cart. Basically a lady on the street with a cart full of different types of candy, when the lady saw Rob’s eyes light up she knew it was her opportunity so she handed him a bag. Normally I would be totally against
wasting money on candy but I let Rob have his moment. He got a little bit of this and that (not very much at all) I asked Rob how much it was and he said 7 euros I almost lost it!!! What a scam, he barely got any candy… So he savored every piece of candy like it cost him 7 euros for the next couple days.
On our last day in Nice we headed to Monte Carlo-Monaco for a short visit. I had been before but knowing how much Rob loves poker, I knew he would appreciate seeing the casino. We walked the beautiful and much too clean streets of Monaco and toured the very impressive casino grounds. Rob said it was kinda depressing knowing he was there but couldn’t really afford to play at the casino (which has pretty high minimum bets). The casino itself though is pretty cool (despite the lack of service at the café) out front. We walked around, looked at the expensive cars and then headed down to the marina and ate lunch. We walked around the streets a bit then headed back to Nice. In Nice we went to the beach for the
afternoon. We ate a pretty early dinner and on the way back to our room where we planned on having a movie night, we noticed that people were setting up stages everywhere with different types of music, there were marching bands marching the streets and circus performers everywhere. So we hung out for a while trying to figure out what was going on. We ate some gelato and explored a bit then headed back for a quiet movie night. Midway into our movie we heard huge fireworks outside that went on for a long time. From our balcony we could only see the sparks and sky light up. Wish we had known…lol, I guess next time.
P.S Rob shaved off his beard!

Love Nice!
Now that looks like somewhere that I would want to hang out for awhile. The beaches look beautiful. Did you ever figure out why they had the fireworks? Was it a celebration. What made Rob shave his beard? Tell I think that he looks good and definitely a few years younger! Love Mom (Jacquie) PS...the little gremlin otherwise known as Leo was here yesterday. He is doing great! Jesse and Cheyenne are doing a good job of looking after him!
