I am currently 27 years old and getting married July 23 to an amazing guy! We both love to travel and I can't wait to explore Europe for a third time, but for the first time with Rob....and as a married couple!

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris August 30th 2011

So our drive into the city was surprisingly easy and uneventful. We drove without any problems and even had a parking spot reserved for our rental car at the train station. All we had to do was lug our luggage onto a train and then walk to our hostel in the Latin Quarter. We got settled in our hostel, it isn't glamorous but it will do the trick for the week. It is right in the Latin Quarter just a two minute walk from Notre Dame so we are really central and it is pretty cheap. We have a room to ourselves and share the bathrooms and showers. We spent the first day back in Paris exploring our neighbourhood. We were especially happy to be staying in this area because of all the options for cheap ... read more

Europe » France » Pays-de-la-Loire August 26th 2011

So our adventure began with a very very very long day of traveling. We picked up the car in Toulon and decided to get to the Loire Valley to do our castle tours we should drive as far as we could the first day. So we drove for about 8.5 hours with a couple of stops until we got to Tours, France. Rob was pretty happy to be driving on roads at about 130-150kmh. Our little car can go pretty fast... I was happy that it was turquoise like my car back home (a colour Rob for some reason hates...lol). Anyway so we stayed the night in Tours at a cheap hotel (36Euros a night...woohoo) it was a pretty random hotel but it did the trick, then it was up early and off to fit in ... read more

Europe » France » Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur » Hyeres August 22nd 2011

We were off to our next destination in the South of France, this time the train ride was more enjoyable...maybe because it was only a few hours or maybe because we actually had a seat of our own. When we arrived in Hyères we were a little too early to check into our timeshare (Thanks Aunt Sue and Uncle Brendon for setting that up), so we sat outside ate lunch, played cards etc. When we checked in there was a bit of confusion over our booking but we were able to get our room and settle in for the week. It was nice to be able to unpack and settle down somewhere for a little while. While we were unpacking we noticed a little circus being set up outside our room and were pretty excited to ... read more

Europe » France » Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur » Nice August 16th 2011

We had a crazy train ride from Milan to Nice. What’s new really…all of our travel days have so far been a little crazy. We weren’t given seat numbers for the train which we didn’t realise until about 2 hours into our trip when people slowly started to fill up our cabin and replace other people who were basically squatting in the seats until they were forced to move. So shortly after we realised our seats were taken and we were out in the train hallway for the rest of the trip. Luckily we could keep our suitcases in the cabin. We spent the next couple hours up and down as people were walking up and down the hallway past us. We arrived at our stop and transferred trains for another 30 minute train ride until ... read more

Europe » Italy » Lombardy » Milan August 12th 2011

Well our stay in Milan was short and sweet. We are now 5 flights, 4 countries and numerous cities into our trip. On Friday morning we headed to the car rental place to return on car. I was pleasantly surprised when the owners son (with a fresh new hair cut) lol, drove us to the airport in Santorini. We had some troubles at the airport, despite me emptying out some things we no longer neeed and repacking so that all my heavy stuff was in my carry on....my luggage felt lighter than ever...somehow we were over the weight restrictions for the first time? After 4 previous flights, strange. Anyway, we arrived in Milan and found our way to our hotel which was next to the train station because our stay was going to be very short, ... read more

Europe » Greece » South Aegean » Santorini August 11th 2011

Santorini continued… On Tuesday we drove down to Kamari beach which had amazing blue water. We decided to rent chairs and an umbrella for the day for a more comfortable beach experience. It was nice and we spent the day swimming, reading and relaxing. After we were done at the beach we stopped at a winery (one of many on Santorini) called Santo Winery. They have an amazing view of the caldera and so we (mostly me) sampled the wine and ate some cheese and “crackers” aka stale bread to cleanse the palate. We bought some wine and then headed back to our resort pool and relaxed for awhile, enjoying our beautiful views and decided to stay in Akrotiri for the night, so we headed back to Aeoles for a fabulous dinner (I had another amazing ... read more

Before I continue with our amazing stay in Santorini... I need to tell you one more story about our bus tour in Greece. This story is specifically for Cheyenne, Jesse, Amy, Matt, Tyler, Mom, Dad and Rachel and it is about my "but people say these glasses make me look like a movie star"... sunglasses... sigh, my perfect 20$ sunglasses. So despite my attempts to keep my sunglasses only in the safest locations (which meant wearing them the entire flight from Vancouver to Paris), I had them in the seat pocket on the bus and Rob in a mad rush to get to the bathroom before the multitude of people on our tour he raced out of the bus and I was left with my broken sunglasses in hand and a crushed look on my face. ... read more

Europe » Greece » Central Greece August 5th 2011

After a night in Athens... we got picked up in the morning by our tour bus. Surprisingly the tour bus was on time and extremely organized (I was a little bit skeptical). Despite the long hours in the bus the two day tour was amazing, a kind of tour that really hits you later on.... I really saw that??? Wow! Anyway, we started off our tour driving through Greece to get to Delphi. If you know anything about Greek Mythology, or watch enough movies you know that Delphi is pretty important to Greek history. Me an admitted history nerd and Rob who looooves movies were both really excited to take this trip. Of course at one point I had told Rob all the details of where the tour would be taking us but of course he ... read more

Europe » Greece » Attica » Athens August 3rd 2011

Our flight to Athens was great... a little turbulance which I am not a fan of BUT Aegean air is awesome. It was only a two hour flight but we had a full meal and beverage service, so by the time we were done eating our lunch we had arrived in Athens. It was also awesome to fly over Italy during the day. I could see both coastlines of Italy at the same time from the sky it was pretty cool. Our time in Athens was very short but memorable. We arrived in Athens at around 4 pm but with delays in travel and no taxis we didn't arrive in our hotel till around 630pm. We probably could have rushed to the Acropolis but when we arrived at our hotel and saw that it had a ... read more

Europe » Spain » Catalonia » Barcelona August 2nd 2011

Barcelona. We'll things were off to a rocky start with an awful flight at night from Paris to Barcelona, with stupid Ryan Air. Yes it was a cheap flight but not only did we have to fly out of an airport an hour outside of Paris only accessible by shuttle bus, but the flight also landed not really in Barcelona but a little town called Reus. Yes we knew this facts in advance but it was made worse by the all together annoying flight attendants that literally made everyone stow away their sweaters etc in the overhead. They checked about 1 million times before the flight could take off and they kept handing us things to hold onto until the end of the flight, when we landed they played a theme song. So we landed in ... read more
