Causmont sur Durance
Pool in Roman garden Sunday night continued
On our return to the room, we conducted some further internet surfing, to try and find some rented holiday accommodation in the area. We found about five sites we liked, dotted all around the place, in a website called, Owners Direct. We sent a message to each of the five of them asking if they had availability for a few days.
Later on we received a message back from owners who have a place not far from St Tropez, and we went for it, should confirm details later today.
The plan for today is to leave Avignon and travel to Salon en Provence, something like 80 kilometers.
We initially headed back up the road to Orange, as we had stopped at a large Carrefour supermarket on the way down to Avignon on Saturday morning and with the possibility of renting somewhere for a few days, we needed some sheets, for our forthcoming stay. We bought these and our usual supplies for lunch.
After that, we headed off in the general direction of south. Pat had seen a couple of places we might like to visit and one of these was the Museum of
Lavender, in Coustellet.
Having got used to the French a little by now, we checked what time lunch was at the museum, and stopped off near a place called Gordes, for our ham, cheese and bread with olives, followed by grapes. This timed our arrival perfectly for 2 o'clock, at which time the museum was open.
It was basically set up by a family who operate in the business and a decided few years ago, that because of changing times, they wanted to preserve artifacts and antiquities relating to the production of lavender oil from bygone times.
Kept us occupied for a short while and as it related to one of the original key points of the overall trip, was worth the visit for that reason alone.
We the headed due west to another place Pat had spotted, a Roman Garden, at Caumont sur Durance. It had a pool that was 65 metres long by about 3 metres wide and 1.2 metres deep.
The place was well set up, and very tranquil, with garden areas surrounding the pool area. We were the only people there, until just as we left two others arrived.
Time
Salon En Provence
Typical Premiere Classe hotel was slowly marching on, so we headed off to Salon en Provence, with a little help from the SatNav to the Hotel.
I have attached a picture of this particular Premiere Classe, in Salon en Provence, so you know what I have been talking about. They are almost all the same. The stairs and access to the rooms are all on the outside and three stories high. For some reason we have been staying on the top floor lately. We do have a river view this time.
Haven't heard the siren yet today.
Weather was overcast most of the day, with the car saying about 21°C. Shorts and T-Shirt weather.
Hooked up to the internet and shortly after had confirmation about the apartment booking.
It's apparently not far from St. Tropez and we have arranged to stay there for five nights.
We have nicknamed our generic Frenchman, Monsieur Closet, from a name I found, and he is referred to often, between Pat and myself. Mostly not in a good way! Their driving is still mostly awful, I think that most of the time, once they see a GB plate they have to overtake. The cars in Avignon were almost all either knocked or dented in one way or another, and they kind of do whatever they like, with regards to lanes, but have no patience at all for anyone else.
The general area is much more Mediterranean in style and feel, olive trees on terraces, but we are not far away from it now.
The Campanille next door was busy, so we tucked into a few supplies we had in the car. The temperature this evening is wonderful, one of those balmy evenings, the cicadas are making a noise in the background, annoyingly and we are looking forward to slowing down for a few days.
Just in case, for those reading regularly, we may not be able to access the internet for a few days. So although I shall be making my notes, it may be a few days before they are published.

If you're looking to book through directly through owners again, I'd recommend holidaylettings.co.uk. I've used them a few times and had good experiences. Just a thought.
