First night in France, what a view to wake up too! 28-08-09
1st week in France and the future is looking brighter in shades!
We sailed from Plymouth to Roscoff with a fine smooth crossing, getting into port at 10.00pm and we were the first vehicle off the ferry. Things quickly took a turn for the worse when 15 minutes later our sat nav. sent us into ever narrowing backstreets in search of a mythical overnight camper stop. A fairly high level of stress was endured by both our vehicles occupants; however Liz did a great job of getting me reversed in an incredibly tight spot (in the dark). She only told me later about the 20 foot drop (pit) which I missed by inches, apparently she didn’t want to frighten me (female logic?)
That aside, France has been terrific with some fabulous overnight camp stops at really cheap prices, usually around 4 Euros, with brilliant views across harbour, basins and channels. Weather is sooooooo much better with lots of sun and daytime temperatures around 25 degrees. As I write we are in the town of Fouras just south of La Rochelle and we think we will stay here for 2-3 days as it’s a good base for cycling
(Flat). I had forgotten how welcoming France is for motorhomes with reserved parking spaces in all towns and shopping areas making the job of manoeuvring and getting about a lot easier. It is the end of the French and English summer holidays this weekend so we will stay here in Fouras and look forward to peaceful tourist areas from now on.

Luscious Lille here, you can tell its me by the italics I use, just to show a difference between me and ‘Campervan man’! So my followers watch for the italics.
So at last we have found it! The illusive heaven, wall-to-wall sunshine, temperatures of around 25˚c, a cool but not chilly on-shore breeze. A small place on the west coast, south of La Rochelle, north of Bordeaux, for those anal friends who need precise details (Hi John and Jimmy!) Fouras, looking out over the Atlantic. I took Alan down to the shore to watch the sunset over the Atlantic; I took a glass of wine, being all romantic. Alan took his coffee! I spoke of the awesome, spiritual benefits of a sunset, Alan talked about the distance from the earth and wouldn’t it be
amazing if as it touched the sea it went fisst! Vie la difference!
