As we get nearer the UK, we’re starting to reflect on the trip and what we’ve seen and done. All has all mostly gone to plan, and exceeded our expectations.
It’s been an amazing experience. In the 6 months we have travelled 10564 miles, stayed at 54 different Campsites, spent 7 nights on a yacht, 4 Different Apartments, 3 Hotels, 4 Nights with Friends, and one night on a ferry.
We swam in seas, lakes, pools and thermal baths; climbed mountains, walked and cycled through valleys, sailed islands, and explored towns, cities and ancient sites. We ate in restaurants with amazing views, camped at spectacular sites, and met some great like minded people on route.
Today travelling through Europe is easier than you think.
Thinking how our predecessors managed to find their way through Europe with just maps is unimaginable, taking the Greek an Cyrillic Road signs into account just gives me a headache. The Satnav has made life so much easier, it definitely saves money in just a short time. Not to mention saving arguments trying to navigate through busy streets.
With modern cars and the good motorways that cross Europe you could probably drive to Istanbul in a weekend,

We explored some wonderful Capital cities including Paris Rome Athens Budepest
but you would miss out on some superb scenery, natural wonders, history and spectacular buildings.
Even language is probably less of a problem than in the past with English spoken widely, especially with the younger generation. What Esperanto failed to do with his devised language for the world, The likes of The Beatles, Boy George, Bruce Springsteen, Robbie Williams, Coldplay and James Blunt succeeded.
If we were to do it again, or advise anyone: Perhaps have a little German as a back up, as many people did speak it as a second language, and pick your times to visit places, like Rome, Florence or Dubrovnik -as in June when we went it seemed the whole world was there.
Bongo although probably too small for such a trip, behaved admirably, she took mountains in her stride and gobbled up motorways. The advantage of having her included cheap Tolls, Ferries, Border Insurance (as Bongo is classed as an MPV) and being small she was great for getting through those lovely hilltop villages we passed.
In six months we achieved most things we set out to do. We already have plans for our next trip, but one thing’s for sure, two weeks annual
