Pont du Gard
Wednesday, April 7

We all rose around 6am chez Christine and packed the car to leave. I met Joachim's two sons: Julien and Jonathon, who are both very handsome and around my age. Here are the cast of this great adventure:

Adults (aka old people)
Christine
Joachim (Christine's friend)
Fanny (Joachim's girlfriend)
Isabelle (Christine's friend)
Josette (Christine's friend)
Lola (Pierre-Jean's Spanish host mom)

Amigos de Vacanzia! (aka young people)
Me
Cyntia
Rejane (Isabelle's daughter)
Julien (Joachim's son)
Jonathon (Joachim's son)
Paco (Lola's 13 year old son)
Pierre-Jean (Christine's son)

Without much delay, we all hit the road in our three cars. We cruised through the Jura mountains and southwards, out of the Franche-Comte region and into Rohn-Alps. Even though we stopped often to eat and take bathroom breaks, by the afternoon we were already in Avignon in southern France! We left the highway to visit Pont du Gard--a bridge built by the Romans. It was cloudy outside and raining lightly. I was bummed that I didnt' get to see southern France in better weather, because I imagine it's even more charming!

We had a picnic lunch of pizza and sandwiches made by Fanny--yum! And then we hit the road, though this time I was in the "young people car" with Rejane, Jonathon, Julien, and Pierre-Jean. We drove for another hour or two and reached our hotel in Perpignon where we dropped off our luggage. Then we all hopped back in the car and drove to a small seaside town (I think it was Saint Cyprien Plage, but I'm not sure....) to have dinner.

It was a nice restaurant and I had a grilled whole dorado fish--YUM! I sat with Pierre-Jean and we talked a lot, which was nice. It was raining outside again. Despite our protesting, Christine paid for Cyntia and I--she really is too kind--saying that we needed to save our money for the rest of the trip.

Before it got too late, we returned to the hotel and settled in for bed--we had another day on the road ahead of us!
