If you've read the earlier blogs you know I needed a coat. Have looked at a few but can't pay the prices when I have perfectly good jackets at home. Today was the day to find one. Late start since I fell back asleep at 7:30 and didn't rise until 9:30. Finally got out of the apartment at 11 and Metro to Chatelet. I had researched vintage clothing and thought we'd start there. The cheapest place was called Free'P'Star. I thought Monday mornings would be a slow time. Wrong. Got inside and could hardly move. Found a jacket right away but had to fight to move and got pushed to the back to a bin that was just stuffed full of clothes all for 1 Euro (Ross remained at the front of the store where there was breathing room). I started snatching up clothes and throwing them around like everyone else. I had the advantage over the others since they were looking for size 2 while I was looking for size --. Grabbed a couple of things and shoved my way back to the front. Ross was grousing about the stuff I had in my arms so
I left the leather pants behind. My jacket was 5 Euros and 2 items from the bin. Came out a happy camper and then saw there was store 2 across the street. Same business just another storefront. Thought I'd check the 1 Euro bin in there too. Got to the back and there was a tiny spiral staircase going up to a room where about 6 people were throwing clothes all over. The room was the size of a closet and I decided to forego the challenge but couldn't get down the stairs since 2 people were trying to come up. I just stood there until they finally backed down. We passed another Luxury Vintage shop and I went in for all of 2 minutes. Clothes were too nicely displayed on hangers and prices were 30% off of 69 Euros - after the other F Frenzy that just did not seem like a bargain at all. Now off to the Grand Palais for the Jean Miro exhibition. Line up wasn't bad at all and we moved with the crowd through all the exhibit rooms. His first works are interesting but I basically like his art from after WWII much better.
Colourful, full of doodles and interesting to look at and try to figure out stories to go with them. Spent quite a while there and needed lunch so off to Laduree. No major lineup. Once seated we read the menu- oops. On the way there I was teasing Ross about the last time I was there and he wouldn't order anything and I had tea and a dessert. So I was determined this time we'd both eat. Well the menu was crazy. Even I couldn't justify the expense - it was like Lumiere on steroids but for lunch! Left the table so just went to the dessert (chocolates and macarons). The line here was like a special Disney ride so I just snuck around the corner and asked the clerk if they still had the chocolate salted caramels. No, apparently those are seasonal and autumn only has the plain caramels. WHAT! My saliva glands did a quick shut down and we walked out. Had a good sandwich and a very bad latte across the street. Just headed back to the apartment where Ross had a pre-dinner nap while I burned the dinner (not sure how to work the oven exactly).
