Day, 9 Saturday May 13, 2006, Paris Woke up around 10:15 for breakfast. Got ready met everyone in the lobby. We were off to a different part of Paris today. They kept calling it the Market. We left the Hotel and went opposite the direction of the bus. Then made a right, walked a couple long blocks. At a confusing corner we came to a stop to figure out which way to go. Just then an elder Frensh Woman with a smile on her face, yes a French person with a smile, stopped and pointed out the way. We said thank you and made a left crossed the street and we were there. There were Fruit stands, Cafes, pastry shops, deli's, Clothing Shops, Cheese Shops, etc...
We stopped at the first fruit stand and wanted to buy fruit especially cherries, so i took a cherry with out the French retailer seeing of course and it was tasteless. No flavor. So we decided to move on. About 10 stores down i saw a perfumerie, Ojik and I walked in, for literally less than 5 minutes. Just long enough for me to ask if they carried a
UEFA CUP
Arsenal V Barca certain type of Cologne. We came out and the rest of the group was no where to be found. We thought they may have walked up the street. Well we started to walk. There was no one. We walked till we couldnt walk any further without making a turn. We then decided to turn back. We walked all the way back still no one. And then back again to the end. Ojik wanted to check out a store so she walked while i stood outside hoping that i would see a familiar face. But nope there wasnt one. She came out we walked to the end of the street, she stood on the corner as i walked up a block to the left and then down a block to the right, no one. We walked back down looking in each of the stores no familiar faces. We stopped at a fruit stand and bought strawberries, and peaches. We decided to go back to the hotel. At the hotel i had a Nectarine which we had just bought and part of it was ripe and sweet and the other half sour like the French people.
Ojik and i sat in
Notre Dame
No not the Hunchback the lobby and decided that if they didnt show up with in the hour we will take the double decker bus tour of Paris. We sat there and waited. And just as we were about to give up they walked in carrying fruit as well. The usual questions were asked where were you? with the explanations, We walked into the store next door, or we waited out side, etc... The bottom line it was something for us to laugh about, and get on with our day.
So we washed a little fruit ate some of course. And then we were off to bus number 31 and the Arch to catch the tourist bus. We got on and they droves us up and down Champs-Elysees, and then over the Alexander bridge, then toward the Eiffel Tower, where they were setting up to the UEFA Champions cup. If i had tickets i would have stayed longer. Arsenal is to play Barcelona. After the Eifel Tower, the bus was off to Notre Dame. We decided to get off the bus to get some lunch. If started to rain and we started to seek cover. We passed in front of Notre Dame and
Moule Anyone?
The place we dined over a bridge to old Paris where if you explore you will find the Latin Quarter and lots of interesting things. We decided to eat Moule. What? Mussels... Ovsik and I got Moule with Garlic and Butter, Ojik with Wine and Onions and Haykuhi with Cream. So out came Ojiks and Haykuhi's in pots with tons of Mussels. Then ours came with 6 on a plate. Hang on somethings not right 6. Yes 6. So we ate, of course we all shared. By the time we were done eating the rain had stopped.
We walked out of the restaurant to see a Bread Delivery Van with the Man still inside. Ovsik jumped him, just joking, she convinced him to sell us bread. We picked our bread, got ready to pay 3 Euros but hold on no one has enough change. Ovsik ran into the restaurant got change and we paid the man.
They wanted Coffee i wanted a Crepe so we found a cafe in front of the Notre Dame and sat down while we waited for the bus. Ordered, a chocolate crepe, coffee and water. While seated some Armenian was talking loudly only to end up being
insulting. Why do we think that know around us understands our language. So next time your out don't talk so loud there may be another Armenian with in the vicinity of your vocal level.
We got on the bus. I don't remember if i had mentioned it but Ojik and Ovsik were stricken with Hay fever. We sat in the upper deck of the bus, to their luck the trees with the particular flowers that were causing the reations were to our side. When the bus started to roll forward we didnt vere to the left to miss them, they didnt pass over our heads, but the bus went through them.
We were told that that bus will not be going to the Opera as there was a big traffic tie up. We went past the Louvre, the place where Napolean is buried, to the Concorde, and then back up Champs-Elysees to the Arch. Making sure to catch the correct bus this time we got on bus number 31 and were off to the hotel. prior to entering the hotel we split up on a mission to find Fremch Jambon and cheese, to get for the trip home
My Crepe
Chocolate!!!! on Sunday. But once we were in the hotel things changed we decided to eat it for dinner.
We sat in the lobby and got permission to sit in the area of the restaurant and use their tables. Yes permission. We enjoyed our feast. Then we decided to play cards. To rest. Ovsik and I taught Ojik and Haykuhi how to play Belot. So we played Belot for a while.
The evenings plan was to see some night life. So we arranged for a taxi to pick us up and headed out to the area where the night life is. We walked up and down the street, saw some interesting charaters, bought caramel coated peanuts and almonds, they were so good!! Had a drink, listened a really bad cover of English songs, like the doors, the who, if the french hate Americans and English so much why do they listen to our music? Finally we found a taxi to take us back to the hotel. While looking for a taxi we got qouted 20 + euros by one taxi driver who we laughed at and called a theif. Our taxi driver was a pleasent young man until he
Me on the Bus
