A good friend told me he's spent weeks in Paris and only scratched the surface. We knew that 6-7 days was only going to wet our appetite, and it's done that - ten fold. This is an amazing city. It's ties to a distant past, married with where the city is going today gives it a truely unique vibe. We spent a few days in Rome on our last venture, and didn't get anywhere near the same feeling from that city. Parisians know they have a special place, and while they don't brag about it, you know they know it.
We got up late today - I think we are really starting to get worn out. We had our reservation at Breizh Cafe set for noon (since Sunday), and we weren't going to miss the best crepes in Paris a second time. We had to split up and almost run to the cafe to get our seat. The crepes were awesome, but I'm not a huge crepe fan, so probably not the best judge. Everyone seemed to like them.
We left Breizh about 1:30, and headed back through the shopping area - still had a few last minute things
to pickup. I had been itching to get a unique jacket since I got here. Since lots of people around this town ride motorcycles, you see them walking around them on, and they look so different than anything you see back home. I mentioned it earlier in our stay, and Charlene had tracked down a store that she thought had a cool looking jacket. We ventured to that area, and it really was exactly what I was looking for. I ended up buying it, and now I just need to get the bike when I get home 😉
Back to the apartment to drop off our stuff, then headed for Luxembourg. A quick metro ride over the river got us to the Odeon station where a quick 15 minute walk south got us to the Jardin de Luxembourg. A very pretty and popular garden/park, we had several great photo opportunities. We walked all around the park, and finally exited on the east gate about an hour later. From here we split up - Bruce and Brandee still had shopping to do, while Charlene and I needed to finish the Louve (or as much as we could with the time
we had left).
Charlene and I headed back to Odeon, then took a different sequence of trains over to Louve. We got in shortly after 6:00pm (the rates drop after 6:00), and started at the top floor working our way back down. This museum really puts anything else to shame. The building itself is an amazing piece of art, and it's simply crammed with so many great pieces of art. We worked our way through classic Hungarian, German, French, Italian, and Spanish art. Some pictures were more than 60 feet long, and took up entire walls - crazy huge pictures. We got into the wing that housed the Mona Lisa, and what a mad house. I got as close as I could, but they really protect this piece with an extended barrier and two guards.
We timed the Mona Lisa as our last piece, and made our way out of Louvre and to the Metro. Shot back to the apartment to wash up, and headed on foot to Le Petit Marche for our final dinner - this was the place we ate at on Monday, and it had great food and even better creme brulee. The girls were
not going home without getting another shot at this awesome desert. Charlene and I arrived about 8:30, and Brandee and Bruce were close behind - they got a little sidetracked after their late afternoon eating and shopping.
Dinner was awesome - again, and we needed two creme brulees this time... Back to the apartment for some quick packing and cleaning up, then off to bed (for a short nap). We need to be up early for our flight home.
We'll miss Paris, but we will be back - without a doubt. Paris sparked something in us all, and we really cannot wait to return.
