Okay, so it was my last full day in Paris, I slept in until 11am, after turning off my alarm at 9am. I figured I wasn't going to make breakfast before it closed at 10am anyway. I was pretty tired today, Yesterday was so busy! I left the hotel around noon, and wandered down towards the corner patisserie for a baguette breakfast. There was a protest going on in Berczy square, something about public services, so I ate my food on the steps of the Palais Omnisports. In addition to the baguette, I got this strawberry cake-type thing... well, it was good. really good. I tried to take a picture of it, but it just disappeared too fast, I don't know what happened, I swear! There were these slices of real strawberries in it, but when I bit into them, they turned into whole strawberries. Crazy! I'm getting more tomorrow. I want to pack my bags full of them, but I fear they won't last the trip, and customs might not be too interested in them either.
I headed down to the latin quarter first, to try and find the stupid internet cafe, and some gifts/wine for people. That didn't
work out, so I headed to the Louvre for a third time. I took another tour, this one of Italian works, then after it was finished, I wandered around the antiquities department some more. I finally saw the Venus de Milo, and had a nice introduction to classical sculptures as well. The detail in the work is pretty spectacular, especially considering that they're working with hand tools and marble. I still haven't seen much of the antiquities department, but I decided I was pretty exhausted by 5pm, so I decided to head out. I'm actually pretty happy with the ground I managed to cover in the Louvre, I feel that I've managed to see most of it, and certainly all the most important works. Once again, I've got photos of many of the things I've talked about (yes, they let you use cameras in the Louvre...). I had originally planned to check out the Musee d'Orsay as well today, as it was open late until 9:30pm, but I was so sore by the end of the Louvre, I could barely move. I still wanted to try and find some gifts though, so I hopped on the #1 metro line, and
Goodbye fraisier!....*drool*
Okay, so that's a soft layer of marzipan on top, followed by a thin layer of angelfood cake, followed by a huge layer of soft, moist, merangue filling with whole fresh strawberries, and then another think layer of cake. went to the Champs Elyesee. Apparently, you need to get off at the George V (or Henry V, can't remember) stop, NOT the Champs Elysee stop if you want to be near the Arc de Triumph. I ended up walking all the way up, and had a lemonade at a cafe near the arc. I was starving and exhausted at that point, so I headed to a restaurant a bit further down and had dinner. Mmmmmmm... I had steak topped with foie gras, with a truffle sauce (served with fries for some reason), a glass of the house red, a pear-almond tarte with caramel ice cream, and a cappiccino for desert. Satisfied, I headed home and took a nap for a few hours, and now I'm here! I'm going to head out soon and find a place to have another dessert and some coffee (i just tried to spell that "cofe") before heading home again. The latin quarter is still pretty lively at this time of night, even during a week night. As I type, I think there's a group of opera singers drinking at a cafe across the street.... *sigh* do I really need to leave here? Still, it'll
be nice to see everyone again! Miss y'all, and I'll post again tomorrow!
