Opening week at the Hostel

Righty so i though i should probably put up an update as its been soooo long since ive wirtten anything
First things first there is a reason for the long pause and thats because WE'VE OPENED!!! finally the hostel is up and running!! this has made everyone both happy and realeaved as well and mighty cranky and pissed off. This being because

*Staff have had to move rooms 2/3 times in the past week as our 'staff rooms' where already booked
*The hot water for the showers is very tempermental and generally decides not to work
*The lift doesnt work (I live, now, on the 5th floor) good work out for me but crap for hostellers on the 6th floor with luggage
*The reception desk is tiny so its a mess with crap everywhere
*All of our managers have been working 20 or more hours and living on nearly no sleep so as a consecence either dont talk to us, snap, or have gotten sick and cant work
*Live in staff had to move during the night once because they'd forgottne they'd booked out our room and i ended up sleep on the floor

whislt we had this room anyways...
on a mattress after finishing work at 3am
*All my shifts are 7pm till close in Bar... i know this means Gen sees im good in the bar, but the occasional reception shift would be good too
*This week.. or 2 i am working 8 days straight of 7-close shifts in the bar... (close is 2am so work till 2:30/3am) .. this leads to me being very productive the next day... NOT!
*the head chef got sick the day before we opened adn the kitchen is full of apprentices not knowing what to do
*we ran out of food complely today as no one had done orders...
*staff meals have gone to crap, re the whole no food issue....

On the other hand, apart form all the mess up, the staff as still awsum, i love them all and we've had some more appear so the teams really fleshing out well 😊 I havent seen much more of paris than i had before we'd opened but thats just because the past weeks been crazy. I'm planning on going to the pere lachaise cemetery soon though as its ment to be amazing. Kinda creepy going to a cemetary though....

So yeh, at the moment my life is focused on work and occasionally breaking out of the bubble that is my home and job to buy food and do laundry. It has its good points though as ive been speakign alot more french than i initally thought i would be doing working in the hostel as the neighbourhood are really interested in checking us out and having meals and coffee.

so ill leave you with that little update and hopefully next time life will have improved

bisous,
camilla

ps, im holding my current room hostage and im threatening to graffiti it so they cant rent it out 'by accident'!
