The flight from Denver to JFK was uneventful, though the small child in front of us did screech for the first hour. It was the kind of screech that you make when you're first discovering your voice and just like the sound of that screech you just made. But for an hour? Oof.
We had about 3 hours to kill, by the time we got off the plane and transferred over to Terminal 4, so we opted to purchase entry to the Delta Sky Club. Free drinks, snacks, wi-fi, and a fairly quiet place to kick back. It would be more worth the $25 apiece (which I thought only 1 of us would need to pay, but…😉 if you were there longer, but even for a few hours, it was nice. There were plenty of seats to just kick back in (many with power outlets and USB outlets right there), or tables (again, with outlets) for working at, bar seats, and some high-backed cube chairs, which would work pretty well for catching a bit of a snooze.
A few Budweisers *shudder* later, we headed to the flight. Imagine my fear when I saw that my middle seat was next

Celebs have to wait for their luggage, too. to a mother with a lap child. Great. I was hoping to get some sleep, but figured that was out of the picture.
After the longest taxi ever (really – we were taking for at least 20 minutes), and waiting for a takeoff slot for another 45 minutes, we were finally en route to Nice. And the small child? What small child? He slept all night, with minimal kicking. And once everyone was finally awake, I got to talk to his mom a bit. The Cutest Baby Ever On A Plane was named Ulysses. Ulyss, for short. And seriously. A-DOR-able. And his mom helped us jot down a phrase to ask if we could park overnight somewhere, so hopefully that'll come in handy.

We landed in Nice Airport, and realized that we'd been traveling with a celebrity couple. As we were walking down the jetway to customs, Dejo whispered, "That girl looks a lot like Emma Stone." I looked over, and sure enough, that WAS Emma Stone And that Spiderman guy, Andrew Garfield. Huh. She needs a cookie. After waiting for our luggage for about half an hour (whilst seeing that even a celebrity couple had to also wait for

Nice Marche aux Fleur and schlep their own luggage), we grabbed a taxi to the hotel. On the way, we started to see signs for the Nice Fete de la Tour, which helped us realize that a) we were really in Nice and b) ooooh! The Tour de France!
The Hotel Mercure Nice Marche aux Fleurs was small but clean, and very nicely situated. We checked in, and had a quick nap before wandering around a bit. We went to find the tourist information office (which we walked right past at first – not a good sign for these future Amazing Racers), to see about road closures and information for the time trial. We found where they were constructing the VIP tents, and the podium. So exciting to see this stuff going up!
Next, we headed to the market (Marche aux Fleur) to see what they had to offer. Lots of pretty flowers, of course, and many crafts, too. Dejo spotted a waterfall on the hill to the east, and naturally, we said “Let's go find it!”. With our iPhone map (using the MiFi we rented), we found a path to the stairs up the hill. Turns out that was the Chateau Nice, and while we

Not a sandy beach, but lovely just the same. didn't go into the Chateau itself, we had a lovely time exploring the many paths around the hill. Back to the market area (which is also restaurant central), and found a creperie for a relatively quick bite. We were both fading fast, and while a 10 pm bedtime is way too early for us normally, we were quite ready to turn in, as we didn't get great sleep on the flight the night before.
