Today was my first full day in Dijon!
I woke up to a pleasant breeze coming through the window and Flore informing me that breakfast was ready. Walking groggily down stairs we had a breakfast/lunch of bread, cheese (god do I love French cheese) and juice. We watched some television before we got a start to the day and I finished writing a blog I had been working on.
Flore told me that we would go and meet Laura (one of my friends from the exchange last year), Laura's little brother, and Laura's best friend at the pool.
We took a bus close to the house all the way to the city center, and then got off to get another bus. The bus transportation is pretty efficient here. It is much more efficient that in Louisville despite Louisville having a larger population. My theory for this is that the population of Louisville is spread out a little bit more and the all important Americans attachment to their automobiles. Now don't get me wrong I do love driving a car, but its nice to have the ability to take a bus and get somewhere on time.
We got
to the pool and I saw Laura for the first time in over a year. We spoke (In french) and she quickly informed me how much better my French had gotten. This made me beam, because as I stated in my previous blog I do not believe I have improved that drastically. The girls wanted to swim, quite frankly I did not want to. I wanted to finish the last 15 pages in Joespeh Hellers Catch 22.
They swam for 20 minutes and came to join me on the beach towels laying out on the grass. We continuted to talk for about 2 hours about various subjects, and I entertained a bit with the stupid tricks my I Pod Touch does 😊.
Laura's little brother has grown immensely in the past year and will soon be taller than me. It's sad when a 12 year old is gaining on you, but hey thats life.
After we were done at the pool we took a bus back to the City Center and went into some gift shop for Flore. We walked back towards the Bus and stopped at a small mall which Arthur, Jake, Ben, and I had
gone shopping at the year before. I bought a Cherry Coke with Laura's little brother and then sat down at a table to drink it.
We sat there for about 10 minutes until the ladies were done shopping and then a French Woman came up to take our orders. The girls told her they did not want anything and the woman told us that we must leave. We pointed to our Chery Cokes that we had bought from one of the stores advertised at the tables, but she informed Flore that we had bought them "to go"
Thats some crap right there. I bought that Coke so I could sit down and enjoy it. Not to be told "hey get up and drink that somewhere else"
There were at least 10 other open tables around and no one was needing to sit at ours. Despite our protests, we left got on a bus and went back to Flores house.
For Dinner we had bread, lots of different cheese, chicken, french fries(pommes frites), wine, Dijon mustard, and Salad.
God do I love the food of this country! The mustard goes well with everything. Loic's family made
fun of me last year for my love of their mustard, but I MUST leave Dijon with as much mustard as I can carry! It's so good on EVERYTHING! The Dijon mustard that you buy in the store is alright, but it comes nowhere near the stuff that the locals eat.
We spoke French all through dinner and I love how much better I am getting. I will repeat that whenever I don't know a word either I can describe the word, or ask it's English equivalent and Flore or her mother know. It's great for my language learning and I am so happy to be here to improve my French.
Dinner was amazing and afterwards I helped clean up and sat down to watch some Televizzle with Flore and her mom. In between shows I showed Flore's mom Taylors French video and she laughed. Taylor if you are reading this, they say "good job"
Before I went to bed I explained to Flore's mom the book Catch 22 ( in french.... whoah was that difficult) and told her it was one of the best books I had read. We found out that it has been translated
into French and I think that she is going to read it.
Anyways I was pretty tired about 10:30 so I decided to go to bed. Thats not what happened though. I wound up reading some of A Clockwork Orange, and eventually watching the Movie of Catch 22 the movie. I am now writing this blog before I go to bed and I will publish it tomorrow once I have uploaded the pictures. Thanks for reading my blog and make sure to follow my travels 😊
