.It’s 8.57am and no one is in a hurry here. Dijon Market, circa 1873, was inspired by the Paris Market and still operates from the same shed. This will be our breakfast venue when we get going. Hopefully within the next 30 minutes; I may be too optimistic. While quite stunning, French cathedrals and churches tend to be fairly understated, unlike their Italian and Spanish cousins who tend to decorate with gold and precious stones to the point of overkill.

This is a common feature of buildings in the region and the result is achieved by firing the tiles 3 times . Once for the hardness, another to add the colour, and then a third to add the glaze.

Dijon’s smaller version of the Arc de Triomphe. Built in the 18 Century, it was originally part of the town ramparts until they were removed at the end of the 19 century.
