We were told if we get up early on a Sunday there won't be any traffic and we should have no problems driving out, yay so off we headed at 9.30 and it was right there was no traffic... But wait today there is some sort of marathon and all the roads are block we have no way out. We were trapped for two hours our GPS just kept taking us round in circles. Man could have stayed in bed an extra hour. We headed off to Bordeaux stopping at two chateaus on the way (recommended by Pete and Melle) again the only words you can have are wow we just have nothing like this at home, castles, chateaus, 3000 yr old pieces of stone, stone walls that the ancient Romans built just hard to imagine. We actually made pretty good time to Bordeaux and Mal had just said how much easier it was to drive compared to Paris...that was his first mistake.... We are staying in Bordeaux centre and there is no parking but we couldn't even find our hotel, we couldn't even get near it...after 1 1/2 hours of going round and round in circles, down one way streets (cobbled lanes) our GPS sending us down roads with steel boullards or dead ends, Mal then backed into a gutter and went the wrong way around a cobbled square and the police making us back up for 800 metres we thought it was best to park up and regroup. Mal rang the hotel because our other option is to find somewhere on a normal road to stay. They gave us the name of the parking building that is only 5 mins away, we finally got to our room...man we have heaps of luggage when you have to cart it round cobbled streets...sorry they are lanes not streets. We decided to wind down by hiring bikes and looking around the city...again wow...we managed to see a fireworks display from one of the cruise liners that must have been leaving port, spectacular puts our little pier display to shame. We stopped at a resturant at 11pm expecting it to be closed for food but no still open so we had a feed (outside) still 28 degrees Lexie had crepe Nutella for dessert again (3rd one) got back to hotel at 12.30 exhausted again
