This week feels like its been so busy, it probably hasn't but it feels it.
Monday the 8th September, My first drawing class here was interesting, i think it was maybe one of the hardest lessons, because the english was so minimal and this was also the lesson where the teacher put a picture of an ikea stool on the board and everyone started cheering and waving their sketchbooks in the air.. i was so confused. then to top it off they all just got up and left and i was still sitting there like a british lemon. All in all it was one of those days, it's really been one of those weeks if I'm honest.
On tuesdays i have a day off so i thought i would get up early and go into Hameenlinna to take photos and have a look around. I was on my way back to the dorms and i decided to take the long way home and go past the castle, maybe even go in as i had time to kill.... well by this time, i was hot, the weather had gone murky and i just wanted to see something... so the first
building i saw i went into.. It wasn't until AFTER i had paid that i realised that i was in fact in the Prison Museum not the castle, in all my life i have never been so petrified as walking around that prison, by myself, there wasn't a single person in there.. I took some nice photos but really it was horrific, all the exhibitions were in the cells and i was so scared i would get stuck i just stuck my head through the door and glanced around haha! it wasn't until i was in the dungeons and the sauna room that i stuck my head in and got so much more than i bargained for when a mannequin was sitting in there.. i screamed the bloody place down, it was awful! Note to self pay more attention to life and signs hahah!!
Wednesday we met with the International Business students to organise the HAMK christmas fayre and fashion show, it was so interesting and i forgot how much fun it its to be apart of the organising part of a fashion show instead of just the clothing part.
My birthday on the thursday was so lovely,
i woke up, late as bloody per usual here, (alarm just does not work...) opened my cards quick, changed, came out of my room to find Lisbeth had made a birthday sign :D and i bombed it into uni, the girls in my class sung Happy Birthday in Finnish.. Then when i came home my housemates sang Happy birthday with a cake and balloons, which was the best!! Definitely so lucky to have met so many nice people 😊. We have two more Brits in the Dorm now, Tasha and Kirstie, which is amazing because i can babble and they understand most of my nonsense words and they like to drink, (YEY). A few of us went to a gig in a club, for those who know Cardiff its Hameenlinna' version of Live lounge but a bit like an open mic night too, it was awesome. The drink was soooo expensive though, a bottle of Corona was 7.70EUR, a glass of wine 7.20 EUR, a Cuba, Which is rum and coke was 7.70 EUR too or some sort of cheap beer was 5.50 EUR. I spent soo much money and we rode home to drop Tasha off at home and
then we rode back to the gig, when it had just finished.. gutted. Lisbeth and Moritz had found some German friends and we stayed with them and went to a kareoke bar, for anyone who knows me well enough my rendition of RESPECT is not the best but luckily that part of the bar was closing by the time we got a drink and settled down.
Safe to say with the concoction of alcohol i drunk thursday i didn't make it EVO on friday morning, i slept through all my alarms and Sheena knocking my door. Friday was a write off, i missed home, there are things going on at home that i can't do anything about because I'm 1700 miles away and i just wanted to be in Neath hungover, with a bacon sandwich a proper cup of tea and my cat but if i didn't have shit days, that i missed home then i'd have nothing to go home for and i have so many lovely things that make me miss home. BUT! my amazing family had sneakily sent me a box of home treats, Cadburys chocolate, savoury rice, jelly! A plug and other bits and bobs,
it was the best present :D. Thank you soo much!
Yesterday we travelled to Helsinki, it was stunning, the weather was so good, the place was beautiful and i got to go on a boat, on the actual sea! (home people you know how much i love the sea!haha.) We got to see loads, we went up the Olympic tower, 72 meters high with an amazing view of the whole of Helsinki. We got to go shopping too which was nice and i picked up some presents for home, We wanted to visit, Suomenlinna island, an old sea fortress, we got on the boat and the trip over was stunning, just like you would imagine finland to look, icey blue seas with little tiny islands with houses with trees all the way around it was lush!! We spent about two or more hours there we went for a stroll around the fortress and then Moritz, Lisbeth and i sat on the rocks watching waves eating apples, ha! it was soo relaxing!
When we got back to Helsinki we decided to come home and go out instead of going out in there as i really needed my phone on
me and i didn't have my charger or a change of clothes with me... We came home, changed and headed out to Hameenlinna.
Im missing home so much this weekend, i wish i was there with my family and the hardest part of this whole trip could only ever be a situation like this.. because i can't be there in 40 minutes or straight away that i have to rely on a plane and someone to come and collect me if i wanted to come home but i have every thing crossed that everything will be okay and that i won't need a rescue mission and if you get a chance to read this i love you all to the moon and back.
Now after a lazy morning a swim in the lake and a ride was a good distraction for everything 😊
Lots of loveeee
