It was time to head further east and say good bye to wonderful Stockholm. Our ferry was surprisingly large. We discovered after purchasing a walk on ferry ticket that there were not actually any seats you could sit in and sleep in apart from a room with nothing in where you could lie down, so we went to reception in hope that there was a spare cabin we could purchase!!! With luck there was for 40 Euros (below the car deck and with no bathroom) but it was a place to sleep and still feeling rather hung-over G was happier to have a bed to sleep in than a bit of floor.
The ferry was more than we expected. It was huge with loads of bars and places to eat. We whiled away the time T drinking beer and G still on the water, we watched the beautiful scenery go by. It seemed to take about 6 hours before we hit open sea and at 12:30am the sun finally set.
We headed into the inside bar after a good feed, Tony enjoyed a few goes on the roulette and then we watched the Swedes enjoying the disco, sooo funny,
they were going for it on the dance floor, one man was hilarious, he was bounding all over the place.
We arrived early in Helsinki and after a mighty good sleep we bounded out of the ferry ready to speed visit Helsinki and to purchase our tickets to RUSSIA!!! The sun was shining and there was a new spring in our step. We firstly headed to purchase our long awaited ticket to Russia. Once this was done and after being warned in perfect English not to bend or write on our tickets because 'it is a Russia train' (our first meeting of the wonderful ways of Russia) we headed out for a wander and some food.
Helsinki is tiny so it did not take long to have a look around the main sights, which was lucky considering we only had a few hours until our train. We of course had our compulsory Finnish beer (6 Euros) and then headed to the train station.
With great amusement our carriage was full of Korean people on holiday. Watching them speak Korean to the train attendant who was speaking to them in Russia was rather amusing. Especially when they started
taking photos of the passport control person who in turn told them off in Russian and made them delete the photos they had just took, these people will take photos of anything he he.
To our delight before getting to the boarder we were given a free beer, our first Russian beer, we sat back and enjoyed the ride. Once we passed the boarder the Koreans got a load of boxes down from the luggage rack and to our amusement we noticed it was their dinner, these boxes looked like they were from the local Chinese restaurant, and they then proceeded to eat very loudly. Time to find the restaurant cart for some beer and peace!!!!!
