Today my daughter could not eat her breakfast as she was ill, I took a small walk to the Chemist and I bought more flu meds, hot water bottle for my daughter. My daughter told me to carry on with my free city walking tour as she wanted to sleep. We met at twelve outside the i office and we were group of ten, Anne explained the history about Kiek in de Kök which means peep in the kitchen, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and various places. We walked to the viewing platforms and also the Tower wall, Hellemann Tower that houses an art gallery, to the back of the city; we saw the Oleviste church from outside, passing the little cobbled lanes, beautiful buildings to the town centre and in the end we did a little Estonian dance which was fun, I really enjoyed the walking tour and I gave her 10 euros as she relies on the tips.
My daughter was bit better when I went back and she was looking forward to sightseeing so we bought the tickets for the hoho bus, we went for one circle which was the last ride for
the day but we could use the tickets for 24 hrs. We went through Viru Gates which are majestic and very well preserved passing many flower stalls and onto the Viru square where we had our meal which was fine and walked home.
Staying in old town was really good as everything was walking distance and my City hotel is a wonderful hotel with lovely rooms, good breakfast and excellent service. I had asked them if we could stay longer next day and I did not mind paying extra as my daughter was not v well and they arranged for us to stay 3 more hours which was great help. I definitely recommend My City hotel for the perfect location and they went way beyond to help us.
Next day we went for the hoho bus ride which became bit boring as part of the ride to the harbour and commentary was repeated in all the rides. Afterwards we rested till 3 pm and we walked to Skybar Radisson where we had few drinks and food, which were very nice, watched the sunset and the panaramic views of Tallinn, we also watched a movie on I pad and
they did not mind. Then we took a taxi to the hotel and picked up our luggage, the staff had kept my scarf, hot bottle which we forgotten in the room and then the driver took us to the airport which is only 10 mins drive for our 10pm flight.
Summary of Tallinn Medieval Walled City
The Medieval town of Tallinn Old Town is Enchanting with wonderful architecture, cobbled streets, courtyards, town centre, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the Cathedral of Saint Mary, the Virgin the St. Nicholas' Church, Kiek in de Kök, the Viru Gate at the entrance to the old town, the ancient walls and towers with many bars, coffee shops and restaurants. Most Estonian s speak English and they are very friendly and if you want to do the Museums then 2-3 days are enough as it is small town and everything is walking distance. You can walk the city walls for the great views of the town. Buy Tallinn card if you want to do the museums and it gives you one ride on Ho Ho bus as well.
I had a brilliant time and even though my daughter had been ill, she had fantastic time as well on our Baltic holidays, Riga was fun and Medieval Tallinn was enchanting, we were pleased to see them both.
