01 Through the gate
Some of the buildings as we walked through the gate into the old town. Geo: 59.4389, 24.7545
Had a late start today with a 9am brekky. Drove to the port with plenty of time to spare, so we all ran off to do some last minute shopping at the market. I bought a pair of earrings. We caught the Super Sea Cat (which had a picture of a pet cat painted on the side of it) to Estonia. The trip went for 100 minutes. We entertained ourselves by testing perfumes.
Once we docked we drove to the other terminal to pick up new people who have come from Sotckholm by ferry. There were six of them. Then we drove two blocks to our hotel. We had time to freshen up and then meet in the lobby at 2 for our walking tour of the old town with George. We entered through Fat Margaret tower- which is named after a Swedish queen, walked past St Olaf's church which has a tower with that can be climbed for a great view of the city. Then we came to town square. Tallinn's Old Town is a medieval city, surrounded by 26 remaining towers and gates, walls and cobbled stoned streets. At this stage we were all starving and in need

The entrance to the old town. of lunch, so we agreed to met back in 30 minutes to continue the walking tour. Anita, Bridget and I found a cafe, prices seemed really cheap. The waitress who knew we were in a hurry was too slow to take our order, we were running out of time, so we left and went back to meet the others while looking for some quick take-away. The town square is surrounded by cafes and restaurants and no take-away food. Anita and I decided to skip the walking tour and have a nice meal instead. We had a salad and a pint of cider each and shared a main meal for only $10 each!! Bargain price and it was good quality too. We then wandered around and did our own walking tour and tired to follow the map. Saw Toompea Castle, which is now Parliament House, Alexander Nevski Cathedral (which is Russian style and I have seen one of his other cathedrals somewhere in Eastern Europe). Walked uphill and came across the two viewing platforms and had a great view of the old town. Could see many of the 26 remaining towers, church spires, buildings and red roofs. We stopped in souvenir

Looking into the town square. stores. Amber is everywhere, so I bought a bracelet. Walked back to the hotel to get ready for dinner.
We all met in the lobby and walked back into the old town to a German/Estonian restaurant. Then we found a bar to watch the soccer final Italy v France- what a long game!
