What is it about a bridge that makes you either love it or hate it ? Perhaps like us you have stood in front of a bridge or driven over it and thought to yourself what an achievement that bridge was and still is . Ironbridge - the first iron bridge in the world . Telfords Menai Suspension Bridge . The Millau bridge . The Forth Road Bridge . We continue to build them and they are often both functional and beautiful . Shame I can not say the same for the book I am currently reading . Hailed as a recent classic - The Twyford Code sounded interesting . In reality I have found it hard going . It is written as a series of tapes and is not the most riveting book I have ... read more

After our stay in Copenhagen we booked a car (An Opel Corsa which is a Holden Astra, and I must say it drove just brilliantly and didn’t skip a beat on the way) and drove 400kms to a cabin in Lundo on the banks of a massive lake called Limfford. The drive was absolutely incredible. The scenery was beautiful and because the traffic wasn’t too bad we could actually look at it and appreciate it without worrying about crashing. We basically drove from one end of the country in the South to the other end in the North. On the way we crossed one of the biggest suspension bridges in the world (from watching discovery channel about a bridge being built in China we know it is either Number 1 or 2) and Claire actually got ... read more

We had a plan. We reckon that it was as well-considered and reasonable as possible, given the scope and nature of the project. Traveling around the world, and in the way that we are doing it, requires management of many variables, some of which are definitely going to be a surprise when they arise. We knew that there would be countries that would be cheaper than others and we set our budget to take this into proper account. We also knew that Europe would be up with the most expensive places and that countries like Vietnam and India should be a help. All of that and it was still just a bit of a surprise to hit Denmark. The budget has been tracking along pretty well. No major dramas. Carpet-related dilemmas were neatly quarantined in a ... read more

My gosh things have been crazy. Tomorrow is Easter so we've been on easter holiday all week (Påske Ferie). Catherine og Josephine, my host mum and eldest host sister, went to Rome on a trip and I went to Odense, on Fyn, to visit friends. In Odense, I stayed with Caity, one of my best friends here. She's from Sydney and an absolutely gorgeous girl. Naomi, another Sydney-sider who is staying in West Jylland also came over for the week. We partied a lot at James Dean, a pub in Odense, with the Americans Scott and Marshall. Ryan L from Canada also came over to Odense for a couple of days. It was a very emotional week. There were a lot of laughs and we had a great time mostly, but towards the end there were ... read more

Nyborg castle is located here in this 15000 inhabitants in central Denmark. I got used of the Scanrail pass to make a quick visit to this little small town. It is a quick train ride from Odense, you got to check the train timetable for the time and frequency of the trains stop at this small station. There is a busline to take you from the train station to town but I walk and enjoy the scene along the way. It is a delight small little town with moats, harbors, castle, and shops. The castle was built in the 11th century and have been rebuilt several times. The annual "Danehof" meeting took place here in Nyborg from 1354 to 1500s. Danehof was the event of the year in the old day where important individuals and politicians ... read more
