Hey folks,
We are living Denmark in seven hours. I am writing this blog at the reception in the middle of the night. This hostel is awful. The staff is doing nothing, but drinking their life out with the guess and I wont even get started with our 66 beds dorm.
Copenhagen is lovely. We just spent four days walking around the many different neighborhoods. Copenhagen is a unique place. Many reviewers described the city as the Amsterdam of the North. However, Copenhagen only have five or six canals. Even though, a canal ride late at night is still a great experience. The Old port famous colored houses is a most see. It is too bad the little mermaid was not at is usual spot. She is currently at the world expo in Shanghai. They put a live stream at is original spot to let us see what is going on in Shanghai.
The area around the Marble church and the royal palace as a unique Georgian architecture. In some street, you almost feel like you are walking in the UK. The danish history is really present and tones of monument dedicated to their belief, history and local
glory are spread around the city center. I really experience the wealthy feeling I have when I am visiting London. People were in general very friendly and happy in general.
We took two days to walk in the countryside. We first went to Hillerød to visit the beautiful castle and is gorgeous garden. You can wander around the small village for hours, talking to the happy locals or drinking a Carlsberg on one of the many terrace. You can also head straight to the main attraction the castle. The castle is amazing. It was the first time we were visiting a Renaissance type of castle. For seven euros, you can visit by yourself the beautiful church, the great hall and the apartments. However, if you have less time, I really recommend spiking the castle inside visit and walk around the beautiful garden. The royal garden is huge and you can admire the castle from different point of view. You can also do a mini-cruise on the lake in front of the castle. The boat ride is about 30 minutes long and you can get out at different location throughout the garden.
The other day trip we did was
to Helsingør. Again, the main reason we were in this small town, just a small ferry ride from Sweden, was to visit the Castle. The castle is the number one tourist attraction in the country. You can spend hours walking on the beach around it or admire its fortification. You can also spend time in the many local arts craft. However, the main reason why people visit this castle is to see the royal apartments, the church, the maritime museum and the amazing dungeon. The visit is a bit more expensive that the one in Hillerød, but the dungeon only worth the entry price. You walk the huge prison for about 15 minutes with for only source of light a small flashlight and lanterns.
We also visit the Carlsberg breweries. They give you two beers and you can visit their exposition by yourself. The admission is nine euros. If you like breweries and danish beers its worth it. If you have visited the Heineken experience or the Guinness breweries, you might be a bit disappointed. I was.
Tomorrow, Germany. I am really looking forward to this refreshing mass. Its Chloe birthday the 25 too.
Cheers,
Nick
Hostel:
Copenhagen city public hostel: I will try not to be to hard on them. The staff is great except the night dude who is an idiot. The only thing he had to propose me when I show him the picture of the all the bite in my bed was sleeping outside and he kept on drinking behind the desk. Not clean at all, location is great...a 66 beds dorm is way too much and they are never locking any of the hostel door, anybody could have get in without them saying anything.
