Now you just can't beat this crystal clear beach on Brac!!!
It's the journey not the destination....how fitting is this for those out to discover the world!! When you can get both, a wonderful journey to get to a special destination it just doesn't compare!! This is how i feel about our travel to Croatia....
Like you have read so far we had such a fantastic adventure going through Albania and Montenegro and finally arriving to Croatia couldn't really ask for more!
Dubrovnik was our first stop and a beautiful city, i know it's been said before but i just can't get over all these beautiful fortresses that lie at the heart of the city!! Arriving here mid afternoon we quickly headed to the castle to explore the coble streets, indulge in the ice cream, and take in the mass of people wondering around all the shops in the city walls!! We felt a weight lifted off our shoulders knowing that we made it back to the coast line and feeling the ocean breeze!!
Unfortunately only one night here but we soon found out that seeing as we're travelling opposite the normal "gringo trail" we had to go a round about way to get to Hvar island where accomodation was booked
Hvar
Seafood doesn't get any fresher than this....absolutely devine!! and ready!! it was a tuesday and no ferrie ran till sunday.....looking at our options we took a bus till he dropped us off at some random roadside stop, he pointed down the hill towards the port and off he was....successful with the broken english we managed to understand that we were arriving on the other side of the island from where we wanted to be once we got off the ferrie, we lucked out on finding some friendly, newlywed canadians (with a car) that gave us a lift down the winding roads, accross the island to Hvar town!! Never a dull moment on our travels, let's thank the travel gods for our luck!!!
Hvar was everything we'd been waiting for, beautiful room, lots to see, people around, over the ocean.....If only Malka wasn't feel so ill!!! Looking back over the last few weeks we reallized how quickly we'd been travelling and this was maybe a sign to slow down!! We took a daytrip to the nearby island of Brac where we found the most amazing crystal clear beach we'd yet seen.....quickly we decided that we should turn our "fun daytrip" into a 5 night stay....it was just what the
Plitvice
A picture is worth a thousand words! doctor ordered!!!!
We set out the mission, ferrie to Split the nearby port town, and back to Bol for a wonderful 5 days relaxing on the beach, eating the best nectarines, peaches and watermelon we'd ever had!!! What more could you want when your biggest worry was to make sure you rotated while tanning!!! Let's not be fooled we did have a taste of the island music and local rum!!!
Sad to leave we felt back to full form and ready for our next adventure!
We took this one a bit blind but let's face it we have been for a while.....an early boat to Split and up to Zadar....where we thought we'd spend a night but after 3hours at the bus station we flipped a coin and headed to the national park of Plitvice (it must have been the shock of getting off the island and back to city life!!) Arriving to the NP what a beautiful site to be surrounded by pine trees and valleys....a little touch of home well with the exception of the valley of course! Arriving at the campsite we were shocked to be turned away as they had no beds available.....curse the coin!!! with
Dubrovnik
From inside the castle walls! a smile on we walked to the nearby village and found a welcoming elderly couple advertising "zimmers, sobe, and camere" good thing that all means bed!!! Our new home had been found and a restful sleep granted!!!
A full day hike in the park was a snap happy one as every corner we took it was another poster perfect shot!! The fish swimming in the crystal clear aqua blue water dropped our jaws in aww with the contrasting forest of lushuss green trees it was like heaven!!
Meeting up with three london girls and one spanish we explored together making one final fantastic day in Croatia....and how better than to finish with a swim with the locals in the nearby river, well deserved after a day in the sweltering heat!!
As we say goodbye to Croatia I thank it for it's beauty that didn't dissapoint!! Europe is a Meca of endless discoveries!!!
hugs
