After that bus ride the day before it was a casual start to the day. I cleaned up and walked to the shopping centre across the street to grab breakfast and some things I needed. I was told to exchange euros for kunas in the centre of the city because the rate would be better. I couldn't find contact lens solution in the supermarket or drug store. When I finally asked the cashier about it when buying some sunscreen, she pointed to the optometrist across the way. The drug store had so many other things in there but didn't carry that. Also, I didn't weigh my fruit and tag it before I took it to the cashier. Things are little different/old fashion here. At the hostel I chatted with the two Dutch girls who were in my room last night while they waited for their taxi. Because my bus got in so late last night I never got to explore the old town until today. I planned on going to Plitvice Lakes National Park today but they advised me that it if you don't go early enough you'll have to wait in line for several hours. Tickets are necessary too. This
is what happens when you don't plan it out and wing it. It's about an hour and a half away from Zadar. If you take the bus, you’ll get there with everyone else. I wanted to see if I could rent a motorcycle somewhere. I finally left the hostel at noon. It was high 20’s with a slight breeze today. The walk down took 20 minutes. The old town was quite busy. I've never been to an old town like this where it's surrounded by water. I walked around for a couple of hours and a black risotto with cuttlefish. I exchange some money after comparing rates. I almost bought a paint because it looked nice, but decided not to because I didn't love it. No places had motorcycles available. I decided to extend my stay in Zadar an extra night so I could go see the Plitvice Lakes. This meant I had to rent a car so I could beat out everyone else there the next morning. I ended up renting a VW Polo from a place called Popcar. The seemed decent and quipped when changing the language in the Navigation that “Betty the English woman is a clever
bitch”. When we did the walk around for damage on the car the most significant damage was two scuffs on the LF corner in front of the tire. Later that night I drove to car to dinner instead of walking 13 minutes and ended up looking for parking for 20 minutes. People park anywhere they can here. Sidewalks, double parked, wrong side of the road. For dinner I had a delicious grilled squid. When it was dark out I drove back down to the old town. There was a solar powered disc in the ground that illuminates at that hour. Right next to it is the sea organ. As the waves come in, they force air through pipes and it plays notes. I actually sounds somewhat creepy as if it's possessed. See more of the town, it reminded me of Okinawa in Japan. It's quite small and different than any other place I've been. They didn't book anyone else in my room so I had it to myself.
