This was one of the few days that we woke for breakfast, which may have been a mistake as shortly afterwards it was decided that we’d have a swimming stop. I disregarded the no swimming for 30 minutes after eating rule, I know I’m a rebel. Nic and I decided to swim toward the shore of an island. We had been warned about sea urchins, which are black spiky things that are common near the shore. Luckily we had been warned because they were everywhere, along with these weird red golf ball sized blobs on the rocks, not to sure what they were. The rest of the morning was spent reading and chillaxing.
After lunch we pulled into Dubrovnik, the central part of the city was a bit of a journey so we caught buses in. When we arrived into the main central area, which is amongst a giant fortress, we were given time to do our own thing before meeting up to walk around the top of the fortress. Nic and I found the outside walls and walked as far around the rocks as we possibly could. The walk around the top of the fortress walls was a great
way to see the city. The terracotta roof tops were everywhere. Apparently the men used to mould the round roof pieces over their arms, some of them were pretty big so they must have had big guns. It was a mixture of new and old, some of the houses looked like the windows were about to fall out. We stopped to watch a few kids playing football, well not really football, one of the kids was facing the wall while others where trying to smash the ball into him, looked like fun, well for all bar one. After the walk it was time for ice-cream, Grant recommended a place so we tried it out. The guy serving was crack up, he had learnt a whole lot of colloquial sayings, so said ‘G’day bro’ to me, the Aussies got ‘Fair dinkum’ and an Aussie girl Nickola even got ‘See you round like a rissole’.
Later in the evening we found a secluded bar on the side of the fort which overlooked the sea, it was a nice night and I’m sure I’m not the only one that could have just sat there all night. But it was dinner time so
we strolled to a nearby restaurant and had an amazing feed, I had the prawns which kicked ass. Next up we found a bar that served huge 3 Litre cocktails in a metre long cylindrical tube. They went down a treat, probably a little too well, because when we reached the nightclub Fuego it didn’t take much coaxing for some of us to jump on the pole dancing poles. Nathan, an Aussie, took a particular shine to them and I don’t think was off them for the rest of the night, except perhaps when he, Grant and I did some sort of shot at the bar. I think this may have sent Nathan over the edge. A lot of group photos and dancing continued well into the night. I remember walking home with Jordan quoting Flight of the Concords, what I can’t remember is how we knew how to get back to the boat. Once back at the boat a few of us kicked on, we didn’t have any spirit mixer so a few of us set out to look for a shop. It didn’t really cross our minds that it was 3 in the morning on a Tuesday. What
Josh and I did find though was a kids go-cart, although it was minus the wheels. That didn’t stop us though, he jumped in and I pushed him as fast as I could go. It was great fun until I ran out of puff. Back on the boat, we stayed up for a little longer, Chris managed to get some Pepsi from somewhere, I can’t say where, but will say it was well planned and executed. Someone bought out a pack of biscuits which wasn’t the greatest idea, because all I remember is Claire holding her mouth open while people tried to throw biscuits in. It seemed like a good idea at the time. By this stage I was knackered so hit the hay, a few stayed up and made it till sunrise, I don’t think they were awake for breakfast and some of them even for lunch!
