This traditional medieval dessert is widespread around the Adriatic Sea. In 1300 it was mentioned as 'the pudding of friar'. People name it rozata, rozada or rožada, too.

Its main ingredient is rose liquer (rosalin) as we can guess from its name ('ruža' means rose in Croatian language). This delicious dessert also consists of milk, eggs, sugar, caramel and lemon peel.

It is very similar to crème caramel (Italy), crème brûlée (France) and flan (Spain).

I tasted rožata in Plat, village next to Dubrovnik. It was served with whipped cream and the slice of lemon.
