Mostar? Nope.
Here is the deal: It is low season. Great for no crowds and no heat. Not so great for some things, like tours. We had booked a shared tour for 3 to Mostar for $170. We would depart
Dubrovnik at 7am, and be back at about 6pm. Well, they did not have enough bookings, so they canceled the tour. We knew this was a risk of low season. Funny thing is they offered to give us the same tour privately for three times the price. No thanks. They also offered a tour to Kotor instead of Mostar, but I just had not researched Kotor so we declined. We did get our money back of course. I looked into going to Mostar by bus on our own for the day, but it was not possible.
The bus left late in the day, so not enought time. I also looked into a car hire, but did not want to deal with all the hassles of it.
So, Mostar awaits for another time! Besides, I REALLY want to visit Sarajevo too, so next time we will do both places!
Now, what to do for the day? We found
it! The boats to
Lokrum Island normally begin on April 1, but had already begun early this year a few days before. We paid 320 kuna for the 3 of us, which includes the return boat ride, and as much time as you need on the island. The island is close. It almost looks like you could swim to it. The boat ride was maybe 15 minutes.
The only thing is that you cannot stay on the island overnight at all, and the last boat back is at 4pm. We made sure to play it safe and get the 3:15pm boat back.
Now, for my wife, this was the highlight of our trip. She likes nature more than cities, so this was perfect. I mostly agree about it being the highlight. It was very beautiful and serene on the island. Also, like most other things here during low season, it seemed like we had the entire island to ourselves! Well, we did see some others, but not many, and it was mostly at the end to get the boat back.
There are many trails on the island, but not so greatly marked. We just headed off. It
is an island so not a great chance to get lost. We passed many high cliifs over the Adriatic Sea with amazing views.
We also found a little ocean fed lagoon that they call the "Dead Sea". It was very nice. Another place that I would have loved to snorkel at.
We saw many tame, and well fed rabbits, along with Peacocks. We did not have anything to feed them though. Emilia....make sure you bring some food for the rabbits!
We probably spent 2 hours here and saw at least half the island. I highly recommend going to Lokrum on a Dubrovnik visit!
Back in the old town, we went to our apartment to relax, and also begin to pack. We were departing early the next day and did not want to disturb anyone in the apartment below.
After the packing, my wife and I headed out for dinner. Our daughter did not want to go, but asked if we could bring her something back.
We chose, you guessed it, Pizzeria Tabasco! We just loved everything about that restaurant. The server was thrilled to see us a third time, and asked about our daughter.
We told her that this was our last night in Dubrovnik, and so she gave us 25% off our bill. We had the "Dubrovnik" pizza again. No beer today, and instead I had a Cockta. It is a soda from Slovenia that I liked a lot over there.
After dinner, we walked through the narrow paths of Old Town once more. We took some different routes just for fun. We also plotted our route for the morning to the airport bus. It picks up near the cable car station, and is about a 20 minute walk with luggage.
We brought our daughter a big slice of pizza, finished packing, and went to sleep. It was difficult to sleep. I never have an easy time when we need to depart early. Always afraid we will not wake up and miss the flight.
