That dreaded day. I find it even more dreaded when we need to wake up at 3:30am. We did wake up on time, and headed out by 4am. The airport bus would pick us up at around 4:45am. It was strange to walk throught the completely deserted Old Town.
The bus ride was quick and painless. It was chilly in the air, but the skies were clear.
Checking in at DBV airport was simple. At 6:15am, we were off to Zagreb on Croatia Airlines flight 661. It was an A-319 aircraft and was a smooth flight. We were seated in row 24, seats D,E,F.
Our connection in Zagreb was about 1 hour. I really want to visit Zagreb, so it was tought to just transit here. The new airport terminal is very nice and modern!
At 8:25am, we were off to
Amsterdam on Croatia Airlines 450.
The aircraft was an A-320 and the flight was smooth. We were seated in row 17, seats A,B,C.
We were to have about 4 hours on the ground at Amsterdam. If it were 6, I would have brought us into the city. Our daughter has not been, and really
wants to. We just went out in front of the airport and took a photo of the "I AMSTERDAM" sign. As many times as I have been there, I had not seen that sign in person before.
When we arrived, Immigration asked us how long we were there for. I said we were just transiting and she said it was the wrong place and we have to go back. I explained that we had to go out since I am airline staff. Croatia Airlines could not check our bags all the way to USA since we are stand by.
She let us through.
We checked in for the Delta Boston flight and then went to have lunch. We tried to wait for lunch on the flight, but were so hungry.
At 2:45pm, we were onboard Delta 127 to Boston. We were up front in row 7, seats A,C,G. The flight was smooth and routine, and only took 6 hours and 45 minutes. After the meal, I took a little nap. I awoke an hour before to have the pre-arrival meal, which was very good.
Boston was having rain, and we saw that our next flight
was delayed a little. Customs and immigration was pretty fast at maybe 15 minutes or so.
Since the Indianapolis flight was delayed, we just sat around waiting. We had a light dinner too.
The weather had made virtually every Boston flight delayed. Ours left well over an hour late, at 10:11pm. We had economy plus row 8, seats A,B,C. It was a smooth flight on the EMB-170 aircraft.
By the time we got home after midnight, we had been up and moving for 28 hours. It was easy to fall asleep.
I liked Dubrovnik a lot. I think 3 days is perfect to see all the highlights. I liked the calm of low season, but I think it is a city that is fun no matter what time of year one visits.
Until the next journey, thank you for reading!
