The baths at City Park So, Berlin was pretty cool, we didn't get out to see a lot of sights but enjoyed definitely enjoyed our experience there. We just chilled out our fist day there, walked around a bit and had some dinner at one of the many outdoor cafes which was renowned in the lonely planet guide as being the best restaurant in Budapest. It was pretty good and it was nice to just sit and people watch. The second day was our last day with Alex as he was on a tighter travelling schedule than we are and needed to carry on to Croatia. So it was his day and to celebrate we checked out Margarit Island and the baths. We rented this four person bike. haha, we toured the island without any major crashes so it was pretty successful! Then we went to the baths. There are lots of different bath places, but we went to the ones in City Park since we heard they were good and easy to get to. It was amazing! There were three different pools outside, two for wading that were different temperatures with jets and then one for laps that were cooler. There were even old men

Some gate at the top of the mountain in Castle District at sunset playing chess right in the water. We wandered inside and found more baths of varrying temperatures. Some really hot like hot tub and some sort of luke warm like bath water. We also made ourselves go into the extremely hot steam room for 1 minute (it doesn't sound like long, but it was like breathing in fire in there!) and then we plunged into an ice cold bath. Some lady told us to do that and I was skeptical at first but it actually felt really good. So we lounged around the outside pools for most of the afternoon. It was completely relaxing and a nice break from walking all day from sight sight.
After feeling refreshed from the baths we had a nice dinner at an Italian restaurant then headed back to the hostel for some bevies. Alex and Cassie played backgammon while Kelsey and I had connect 4 wars. After a few rounds and a couple drinking games we were ready to hit the town. We weren't entirely sure where to go so we just started pub hopping. We stumbled across one place that had a guy playing acoustic guitar up in a crowded little loft type

Some statue guys at the Castle District room. It wasn't in English but it was an awesome atmosphere and we felt like locals. We ran into some guys that led us to an underground club. I think we missed the main show, but they had a cool outside bar that we hung out at for a while. Of course we rounded out the evening with a walk home past the gyros place for a midnight snack.
We were all a little sad to see Alex go since we had such a good time with him. However, we found out the next day that we would overlap in Croatia for an afternoon so our spirits were lifted. The last day in Budapest was spent mostly wandering and people watching. We went to a market that sold mostly veggies and meat but also had some souvenir stands.
We caught a super early train (6 am) to Zagreb....what a challenge! It should of been soo easy. The night before we had everything mapped out - but of course it wasn't that easy when we went to do it in the morning. First of all we couldn't find the tram we needed because there was construction on the bridge

The Chain Bridge that we walked over just after sunset. We renamed the bridge the Spider Gauntlet after all the huge disgusting spiders all over the railing and the lamp posts. eeek. that we were supposed to cross to get to the train station. So after slightly freaking out we decided to just get a taxi so we wouldn't miss the train. After finding a taxi we probably got ripped off by the taxi drive who may or may not have had a nose. We were elated to finally arrive at the train station until we walked in the doors and it was the most ghetto train station Kelsey and Cassie had ever seen (including those in Southeast Asia etc) with a couple of dudes passed out on the seats. We had to wander through a corridor of plywood out onto the "platform", if you could even call it that, to the hand spray painted gate number on the ground. All the while we weren't entirely sure that the train we were waiting for was the right one, and not having any tickets for the train. Our Europass doesn't cover Croatia so we thought we would just hop on a train and figure it out later (hoping that they wouldn't leave us at some random Croatia station in the middle of nowhere). In the end though it all worked out fine and

a walking tunnel with lots of graffiti the ticket guy on the train could tell that we didn't have the right ticket but didn't seem to understand much English so probably just let us go because that would be easier than trying to explain anything to us. haha. Sorry for the long story but it was quite the experience for us.
So we arrived here in Zagreb yesterday, checked into our hostel (which is the best one so far with cool murals, free beer, free internet and laundry!) and met up with Alex. He led us to a beach that was away from the city a bit so it wasn't overly touristy. We spent the evening throwing rocks and watching the swans swim around. We said goodbye to Alex again but it sounds like we will meet up with him again in Split, along the coast of Croatia. Today we headed into town to see old town. We mostly just wandered the streets admiring the crumbling buildings and graffiti. We took advantage of the kitchen in this hostel and cooked a wonderful dinner tonight and will just take it easy as we have another early train ride tomorrow morning to Split. I"m excited for the beaches and to get my bathing suit out for some swimming! We will spend about 5 days there as our home base since Cassie has to fly out of Split on the 25th 😞 There are some islands near Split that we can hopefully take some day trips to.
Until then, take care and don't work too hard...tee hee hee. Sorry, but I had to say it.
K.
