The Ampitheatre in Old Plovdiv
It was closed though, we couldn't go in. So, we met the new bunch of kiddies yesterday - world of difference b/w the two groups.
Three of the girls came into our kitchen, introduced themselves and asked if we'd go play football. We had just woken up (it was like, 11am haha), so we told them later. (Even though it was supposed to be our 'day off' we still didn't mind). When we finally went downstairs they all came over and were like shaking hands w/ us and everything haha. Aw, too cute! And then even ask for things - it's no more grabbing glasses or cameras, I love it. I have a couple cute shots of the younger ones wearing my glasses (which turn into sunglasses outside).
I played football most of the time we were out - the older ones seem to like me just b/c I don't cringe and run away when they shoot at the net while I'm in goal. It was fine for the first little while (one of the kids would even apologize every time I'd say "oof" or something if the shot was particularily hard haha), but if I'm going to do this all week I'll need goalie equipment -
I've never faced shots like that.
We played a couple other little games they knew - a version of capture the flag, of keep-away, and of stella-ella-olla (YES!!!!) and some of the younger girls taught us different hand clapping "games". They're silly. The littlest ones also like to braid your hair/have you do their hair. The boys just like to run around (as usual), but they're all little flirts too - unfortunately some take it a little far when they try to grab your chest or your butt, ahem, but for the most part they just tell you you're beatiful and try to give you a kiss on the cheek.
During the day most of the volunteers went out for lunch, and then we took a walk through Old Town - definitely should not have worn my flip flops for that one. The "cobblestone" roads are so uneven, it's insane. We got some nice photos, although it's a shame pretty much everything's covered in graffitti here... it definitely ruins the ancient feeling.
Last night we went back to play w/ the kids for a bit, to play cards and board games w/ them which was fun. My
kid didn't exactly believe in rules, so our parcheesi game turned into a free for all - whenever he'd look away myself and the other volunteer would each roll like 5x to try and make up for all the crap he was doing haha. Skill. Oh, and I also got my nails done by one of the flirty boys - right hand was all purple, left hand my pinkie was orange, my ring finger was purple, and the other fingers and my thumb were purple w/ orange polka dots... he was quite the stylist eh? He'd even stop and try to fix my nails if he went on to the skin, it was funny.
Today we headed into the "downtown" centre w/ the kids. Omg, that was mayhem haha. We were each responsible for one kid - guess how long that lasted? Yeah, maybe 5 min. One of the staff came w/ us - he's really funny and sweet, but he whacks the kids... I always feel so bad. As good as they were back at the orphanage, they really don't do listening when you try to contain them in a public setting lol. We had fun though -
Kids in the theatre
It was open when we brought the kids - they were practicing for some multicultural show. we went to the park, so they were happy to be free again and run around. Also, some of the boys were happy to kiss statues of girls... I had to laugh and take photos. Sillies.
On the way back we went back to Old Town which was a bad idea haha. The youngest ones had problems walking up and down the massive stone steps, and there's another boy that has leg problems, so that was hard. We had nice views of the ampitheatre though - they were practicing some sort of international show thing for later this week. (Alas, no Canadian participants)
Tonight we're supposed to go play cards w/ them again, so we'll see what happens =)
