Voorbij voordat het begonnen is... Over & Sluiten. :(... read more

Well here we are in Belgium! We have been here for about a week after the longest "day" of travel I have ever experienced. We left Winnipeg at 9am on July 4 and from there headed to Montreal where we had a nine hour layover before heading to London. We had every intention of checking out Montreal but soon found that to be easier said than done. It cost fifty dollars return to go into Montreal on the airport coach and we were informed that if we wanted to be back for our check in time we should not even bother trying. So we sat around for about five hours until 5:30 and then went through security where we found more comfortable accomidations to wait the remaining four hours until our flight. Well, as if a ... read more

On the 2nd June 2006 the Physics boys from Leeds visited Leuven travel by passenger ferry from Hull to Zeebrugge and travelling from Zeebrugge in the sporty Honda Civic (now dead:rest in peace). The plan was simple. Girls, booze, drugs, rock and roll, and if at all possible, a bit of culture. Unfortunately, I was the only girl (three boys went without), we couldn't find any drugs, rock and roll was off and replaced by conceptual art performances in the air, but low and behold, we were saved by the bucket load of booze and culture! ... read more

I knew it would be a bummer have to work on the 4th of July and miss all the regular Independence Day fun, so to make up for it, I took my 4th of July holiday on Friday and headed out to a 4-day music festival near the Belgian city of Werchter on Thursday afternoon with a bunch of Shell buddies. Not much for fireworks (except for Rammstein, of course), but what could be more American than rock n' roll? Yeah, ok, so apple pie and baseball come to mind, but cut me some slack here k? We invented rock, so let's go with that... Here's the stats: 4 days, 60 bands, 280,000+ people, a proud festival tradition going back to 1974, and more junk food, beer, porta-potties, and debauchery than you would ever want to ... read more

Europe » Belgium » Flemish Brabant » Overijse July 13th 1984

I accepted the position at the U.S. Mission to NATO in Brussels, Belgium as the U.S. Representative to the Infrastructure Committees and the Senior Resources Board. Our home in Overijse turned out to be the place I lived the longest in my life. Also, during those years we would have three children, Tamara born in 1986, Rosanna in 1987, and Will in 1989. So this became perhaps the most significant period of my life. Remembering every trip that we took during these eleven years proved to be a daunting task. 13 July 1984 Friday. We had our farewell dinner with our USEUCOM office colleagues. Now we were ready for the next adventure in our life. Linda and I loaded our car and drove from Boblingen, Germany to Overijse, Belgium, in the southeastern suburbs of Brussels, to ... read more
