Everyone slept until 10:30 this morning. It could have been a lazy morning except that we needed to get to the town hall to begin the process of registering ourselves as temporary citizens of Leuven. Hustled everyone out the door and went and had more passport pictures taken (that is about a total of 20 for Jonathan for everything he has had to do over the past few months). The town hall went smoothly as we only had to wait a short time and then basically they told us to come back after the police had done their surprise inspection to prove we were living where we said we were. After that we went to St. Peter’s Church with the girls. They were each mesmerized in their own way. Emma loves the stained glass windows ... read more

Day 2 Technically could be the Day 1 as it is the first full day we have spent in Leuven. Wow. Started off quite slow. Abigail was the first awake around 9am but she cuddled in bed with us for a while. I got up and got her some breakfast. Every meal is a little new and different, which luckily in these two short days they have found to be quite fun. This morning it was waffles (just prepackaged ones that are more like donuts and thus don’t require syrup) and granola. Yum. Eliza woke around 10 and we had to wake Emma at 10:30. I went out for my first run and found the local playground Jonathan had scoped out. Then I ran down towards KU Leuven and past the entrance to our local ... read more

The beginning of it all. We touched down in Brussels at about 10:30am. Abigail and Eliza were still sleeping! It was a great flight for them. We easily made our way through immigration and customs with our luggage in tow and met Jonathan on the other side. What an adventure! We took the train (which departs from the basement of the airport) to Leuven where Jonathan’s friend Christian (who is sponsoring Jonathan’s sabbatical at KU Leuven) met us. He transported us, and, more importantly, all of our luggage to the Groot Begijnhof where we would now be living. Jonathan was right. The pictures just don’t do it justice. It feels as though we are living in a walled medieval village within the bigger town of Leuven. The apartment is great, much bigger than I had ... read more

Well here we are in Belgium! We have been here for about a week after the longest "day" of travel I have ever experienced. We left Winnipeg at 9am on July 4 and from there headed to Montreal where we had a nine hour layover before heading to London. We had every intention of checking out Montreal but soon found that to be easier said than done. It cost fifty dollars return to go into Montreal on the airport coach and we were informed that if we wanted to be back for our check in time we should not even bother trying. So we sat around for about five hours until 5:30 and then went through security where we found more comfortable accomidations to wait the remaining four hours until our flight. Well, as if a ... read more

On the 2nd June 2006 the Physics boys from Leeds visited Leuven travel by passenger ferry from Hull to Zeebrugge and travelling from Zeebrugge in the sporty Honda Civic (now dead:rest in peace). The plan was simple. Girls, booze, drugs, rock and roll, and if at all possible, a bit of culture. Unfortunately, I was the only girl (three boys went without), we couldn't find any drugs, rock and roll was off and replaced by conceptual art performances in the air, but low and behold, we were saved by the bucket load of booze and culture! ... read more
