the official mannikin pis! We woke up completely refreshed with sore necks from crappy pillows but had a great breakie of croissants, pain au chocolat and muesli then headed out in the sunshine to explore Brussels city a lil! We were really starting to get our French on by this point it was great! Little did I even know, French was the official language spoken in Brussels! I just assumed belgianese! J Anyway, we made our way to the city and walked to a square which we assume was the main square but hard to know. All my patients were telling me about this square which I had to visit but personally i didn’t think it was that impressive! Lots of scaffolding around it which was disappointing but we were in the sun so didn’t matter. We kept seeing all these lil statues of a boy peeing and had no idea what was doing on then we realised that it was the symbol of Brussels – Mannikin Pis! All the choc shops had chos in the shape of him and there was a giant plastic one eating a waffle as the streets were lined with chocolate and waffles shops with people stuffing their faces! Mmm
so good! I, by this stage, was getting excited about finding this famous statue, we found it and it was sooooo small! I couldn’t believe it!!! Disappointing but I did the tourist thing and got a shot of it!
We decided to just wander around in hope that maybe we actually hadn’t seen the famous square and we might stumble across it but no so we decided to take numerous jumping shot photos! Bens 1
st attempt at jumping shots! Great elevation and the jeans inhibited the split a bit but he was most definitely inspired by the gymnastics yesterday!! We then had lunch outside in the sun at another restaurant before leaving the city and unfortunately all 3 of us were disappointed by the food here. BUT the fruit beer was once again great!
We then headed back to the expo centre, took more handstand pics and jumping shots outside The Atomium – a massive science monument built for the world expo! Pretty impressive! And took our seats at the gym! All 3 of us were buzzing today about the gym, even ben! We had told him that the girls were going to come out 1 apparatus at
a time so it would be much easier to watch for him – and it was!! Our predictions were right and Romania took out vault, beam and floor and the Russians were 1
st and 2
nd on bar! Amazing routines and the session lasted over 2hours this time so we really felt like we got our moneys worth!! Such fantastic gymnastics and made me miss training and competing so much but also made me so excited for the Olympics! Even though I didn’t get tickets its gonna be so cool to watch!
We then headed back to our restaurant in the sun for more beer and waffles to end the day before heading home! So we had a great weekend literally comprising of gym, waffles, chocolate, beer and meat!! What a weekend!
